    The Aviator

Great Movie. This is one of the best flicks Ive seen lately. Phenomenal job casting and scoring. A must see.

Some people don't like Leonardo, but I don't think people give him enough credit. Films like "Whats Eating Gilbert Grape" and "The Aviator" are testaments to his great acting.

Cate Blanchett as Hepburne was simply amazing.

I will own this the day it's released on DVD!

Can't wait to see this one. Besides being a pilot, it looks really good.

Au contraire! I had high hopes for this movie, however I left the cinema disappointed and sleepy (actually fell asleep!). Can't seem to get used to 'baby face - thinking high of himself - Leo'. Especially not in a role like this...

Well, crap. It's in the store now for $14-15, but I've pretty much stopped buying movies until high-def discs come out. I don't know if this one is worth paying money for, just to have now instead of later in better quality.

I quite liked him in Catch me if you can as well (soundtrack for that was good too) This is definitely on my "Need to Watch" list

Given I had a gift card to burn and the buzz surrounding it, I took a shot and blind bought it. I figured if I didn't like it, I'd sell it and be out the cost of a rental here. For $14.99 I felt I couldn't lose. It easily costs me this much to see it with someone at the theater.

My initial impression is that the movie was great. It wasn't particularly memorable or even Oscar worthy to me but I have to admit maybe last year was a weak year and Aviator squeaked in. The running time was nearly 3 hours and never dragged. This suprised me as most of the time with long movies, I wish they would go back to the editing room. From a technical standpoint, one can't argue with what we have here.

I was apprehensive regarding Leo in the movie but he pulled it off. Not particularly great but he did the job admirably. Then again I'm not so sure whom else could have pulled off the role.

From a dvd standpoint, we have a 2 disc set here. The movie and its 5.1 tracks on the main disc with the extras on disc 2. In all honestly they would have been better off splitting the movie on 2 discs and make it a 3 disc set to maximize the PQ however it still looks rather good as it is. It is very difficult to ascertain the quality of this disc due to the different looks that Scorsese works with. Audio wise we have nothing special here. It is adequate but it should be better given the age of the film.

A better than average effort all the way around here. Certainly interesting and something I plan to revisit later.

                    8 out of 10.

Finally got around to seeing this on dvd. I thought Leonardo did a fair job portraying Hughes but Cate Blanchett stole the show with her portrayal of Kate Hepburn. This is definitely a film for those who are interested in aviation and its history, especially of commercial flight. Hughes was very much involved with aviation and this film deals mostly with that part of his life. His paranoia about health and cleanliness is also touched on here. I have read a few bios on Hughes so there wasn't anything new for me in this film. The flight scenes were nice and the crash was spectacular, but overall I, at least, felt the film dragged in places. I wouldn't bother to watch it again so it was a rental for me.

I read yesterday that Sara Gilbert (otherwise known as Darlene, the best thing about Roseanne, in my opinion) is coming back to TV this fall on this new show The Class! Yay! That show actually looks pretty funny to me - apparently it's from the same producers as Friends and Mad About You. I think I...
