1098: This question has been asked before...

Can someone please clarify what the difference between "Direct" and "Standy" modes on the RSP-1098 mean? No thread on this board clearly explains this difference.

As far as I can tell, there does not seem to be a difference. Is there a difference between them when you pull the ac power from the wall and plug it back in?

Yes it has to do with the AC power. Direct will turn the unit on when it receives power (if the back switch is on). Standby will put the unit in standby when AC power is applied. Direct is nice, if the power goes out and comes back on shortly, it will power back up to where you had it.

The real help is for automation systems.. It's cheaper and more stable to control something if you never have to change settings, than to run IR/RS232 just to turn it on/off.

      Hello
In the last couple of months that I've owned my 1098, I've had a problem occur twice that I can't figure out. Today was the second time that when I went to power on the 1098 with the remote, it wouldn't respond. I then tried the front panel power button with the same results. Both times...

I've owned this receiver for about 1 1/2 years now, from day one the remote control/ ir strength has been really weak. I originally set the powering up of the unit with the "direct" mode, because of the POS remote response.

I recently upgraded to a MX-500 universal remote. After...

Is there any receiver that is transparent for stereo?

In the past I have owned multiple AV receiver. Onkyo, Rotel, Marantz.
I sold my last AV received back in 2013. At that time, I was running a Marantz Pre-Amp (not an AV receiver) with Emotiva 5-channel amp.
