Nice to see a $3000+ preamp connected with Radioshack cables...

Hmm, now I'm pondering how hard it's going to to rearrange my rack again next year..

Is this a beta? If so, will the actual 1098 come with balanced connections, and will it be THX certified?

Ok so I just called my dealer about their upgrade program. That is one beautiful piece of Rotel hardware. WOW. Also that DVD player below it looks new!

I beleive costs will be about double that of the 1066 so I expect it to be around $2400 street price...give or take a bit.

Interesting. Looks odd with two knobs and it looks much more bulky than the 1066. Not sure what to think.

                      Any preliminary specs yet?

                          Very nice indeed Andrew.

Wonder if they will produce it in black?

$2400 doesn't sound too bad.... it will probably be loaded with about anything you could ever wish for and then some.

The additional component and digital audio inputs are nice, but the lack of i.Link/firewire is a disappointment (I supposed they could offer an upgrade in the future, but I'm betting it won't be cheap). I just hope that bigass LCD can be turned off when you're watching a movie.

They better get the bass management right this time...

$2400 sounds a bit optimistic to me, I don't know of too many people who got the 1066 for 20% off list. I know there were a few on these forums who did, but I think 10% is more realistic for most dealers.

Jeff you could be right about the pricing...I guess it will depend on how aggressively Rotel wants to price this and how willing dealers will be to move from MSRP

Hey Andrew - I visited your website. If you don't already have a projector, you might look at the new Sharp Z-10000, or the New Yamaha 16:9 DLP projector. In the photo it looks like you have a 4:3 screen though.

Well, performance is the bottom line but since many of you are talking about looks, I think the 1098 looks like an old toad compared to the 1066. To me, the 1066 is very attractive but the 1098 is acceptable at best.

I don't make my equipment decisions on looks so I may some day find that funky looking 1098 in my rack. Lets hope the performance will make up for the so so looks.

Just did a quick compare with pictures of the RDV-1080.

This 'new' model looks slimmer and buttons are placed different. Interesting.......

I hope for 108mhz/12 bit DACs.

Gianni, my thoughts exactly. I've mixed feelings about the 1098's looks. It also just struck me, from looking at the banner next to the 1098, that the silver 1066 looks a bit like a box from Proceed. Just my $0.02.

                                                Thanks for the pics Andrew.

This is a real bummer. I was hoping to slip the upgrade from the 1066 to the 1098 past my wife on the expectation that they would look very similar. I'm pretty sure she would notice that bad boy right away.

Kudos to Rotel though. I do like the design change of the replaceable cards. In talking with Mike at Rotel quite some time back I was commiserating with him that HT pre-pros weren't stereos anymore but computers with analog outs.

I got some new info this morning to share with you all..

The new pre will be available in late spring (April) and will sell for $4500 cdn and $3000 US. It doesn't have ballenced outputs and the panel on the front is a 5 x 7 tft screen used for system information or as a wide screen TV monitor. That's all i know for now. I hope to get in a sample to review in a few months so I'll let you all know what I think...doubt I can afford it though 8O

Hi... am new to the forum (my Rotel credentials: RA985BX integrated and RCD955AX cd player in the audio-only room).

Someday I'll move up to separates in the AV room (currently Marantz), and Rotel and Anthem are on the short list. The RSP-1098 looks substantial spec-wise (if a little ugly -- and a little lacking with no balanced outs)... but the immediate question that pops up is: won't all this extra video circuitry create a colossal noise factor for the audio section?

Or is the video section shielded in kryptonite?

As I understand it, those type of monitors are often used to queing up movies. I may be wrong, but I think one can que up a scene without it being sent to the screen or monitor until a button is pushed, say on the 1098. That way you can jump right to something...someone with more experience about this jump on in if I'm informed....

I may be wrong, but I think one can que up a scene without it being sent to the screen or monitor until a button is pushed, say on the 1098.
That little monitor could also be handy for queueing up music DVD's and DVD-A's if you have a front projector and dont want to go thru the hassle of turrning on the projector just to pick something (i.e. DTS) from the menu.

Also, if you have a CRT front projector, it gives you something to watch for a half hour while your projector warms up.
