Hello,
I've been getting by with a Korean made Calyx headphone USB DAC with an RA-04 amplifier and I have enjoyed it BUT finally I have some spare, non-assigned cash to use for an upgrade.
Originally, I was going to add a RB 1070 power amp from EBay but I have been outbid which shows what a popular amp that is (sold for 405 USD).
I had been thinking of adding a dedicated DAC to my existing setup (RDD-06 or 1580). However, looking at newer Rotel hardware, I wonder if my money is better spent on a new integrated amp with built-in DAC.
As I only listen through my computer at home these days (I've got a vinyl and CD collection which have mostly been converted to FLAC), I'd like to make the best use of my funds (1200 USD max)? I use All Access on the road with my phone and tablet but Bluetooth isn't an issue with any of these options:
1) Add a dedicated DAC to the RA-04 and look for a used power amp.
2) Buy the RA12 and add an M2tech converter or similar (has good reviews but this is the only hardware I can't test in person).
I am hoping I can sweet talk my wife and go for the 1570 but this is extremely unlikely.
Anyway, any input would be appreciated. I probably have to stick with whatever I go with for a few years so I want to get it right.
