    RA-1062 upgrade / Bi-amping?

    Hello,

I’m the happy owner of the RA-1062 integrated amp, a set of Linn Katan speakers, and a Beresford TC-7520 DAC. But, for some time now I’ve thought about upgrading my system (without spending too much money though).

Since the Katans can be bi-amped (passive and active), I’m thinking that this could possibly be a way to go, but going active with Linn amplifiers is currently a little over my budget I currently have the speakers bi-wired to the A+B speaker output on the RA-1062, but I'm thinking about trying bi-amping. Here’s my idea… I would like to add an additional power amp to my current system, e.g. the RB-970BX, which seems to be almost identical to the RA-1062’s power section, has very good reviews and can be bought very cheap second hand.

First step would be to add the RB-970BX to the pre-out of the RA-1062 and this way run the speakers bi-amped (passive). Is this possible? Or would I need to have some kind of separate gain control of the RB-970BX?

Next step would be to go active by adding an active crossover to the setup, and then bypass the passive crossovers in the Katans, which is very easy as they are made to work as active speakers with Linn amplifiers. Would it be possible to add an active crossover to such a setup? Or should I completely avoid the pre-amp in the RA-1062 (is this possible?) and then use my DAC as a pre-amp? My DAC has variable output and since all my music is run digitally from my computer, I would not need analogue inputs on the preamp.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be highly appreciated :T

    Thanks!

Nobody who can help me out here?

Perhaps I should ask more generally... Is it possible to connect a power amp to an integrated amp via pre-out and then run the speakers bi-amped? And would it somehow be possible to 'go active' in such a setup by adding an active crossover and bypass the speakers' passive crossover?

    Thanks again!

I can't answer your question, but in my experience when people are not satisfied with their setup the problem is usually...

      1. Acoustics
      2. Acoustics
      3. Acoustics
      4. The speakers
      5. The amp
      6. The source

      .
      .
      .

      20. Connections

My point is if you have a large room it's probably your Katans that are to small, or if you have a hardwood floor, a big wool rug will do wonders.
Worrying about bi-amping should only be done once you examined all other reasons the sound isn't right.

Hello everybody, first post here!
I am the proud owner of a couple of vintage Rotels, the RA1312 and RT1024, and I recently decided to taste a bit of the Rotel's more modern amplifiers' line.
My decision was for the RB970Bx (1994, 60Wx2) that I got rather cheap.
        Now my...

I've been lurking in DIY forums for a few weeks now. This looks like a fun hobby and it's only a matter of time before I build myself some kind of speaker.

But a few trends stand out in the popular designs that I don't understand.

        1) Why is the MTM design so popular for mains?...

        biamping

Just received my 804's but have not hooked them up yet. I'm contemplating biamping them versus single wiring. Does anyone have an opinion on biamping? I've read in multiple posts that biwiring doesn't do much in terms of an audible difference but biamping can due to isolated current to the high and...

        Q re Pre-amp sections of RA1062 and RC1070
        by ds22030
I am disassembling my HT system and going back to a receiver for HT. I am using the various components (including my main speakers and RB-1080) for a separate 2-channel music system....this means I need a good 2 channel pre-amp.

Does anyone know if the pre-amp sections of RA1062 and...
