    Rotel RLC-1040 range

Hi there. I'm wondering if the "normal" avr range on the unit is to large of a range. Is says +/- 10%. So is that 120 +/- 12 volts? So is that a total range of 108-130? Is that to far of a range?

I am not sure why you ask this question. Are you suggesting the RLC is incorrectly designed?

It's a toss up of protection and annoyance. Unlike the battery units, the 1040 will completely shut down when it can't keep it in your range.

Set to normal, you will have pretty good protection and very minimal shutdowns. Set to narrow, you will have the ultimate protection but might have to deal with your system turning off a lot.

If you live in an area with a lot of problems, setting it to anything but wide might cause you to turn everything back on every 30 minutes.

Well the reason I am asking is when my tv turns on the rotel clicks on boost on and off quickly and then turns off. It also does this when my amp turns on. I now for the past few months just leave my amp on 24/7 anyway. So this occurs when I have it set to narrow. I like the idea of using narrow as it provides the best/tightest range close to 120 volts. But is it harming my tv every time I turn it on by this boost/no boost/boost/no boost behavior? That being said when the voltage is actually down consistently it does just kick on boost and stay there. So I know it is working properly. It's just the sudden suck of power my plasma takes when I turn it on. Also running out of rectifier juice has never actually happened to me (vs the RLC-1080). Any who. What are your thoughts?

My APC unit (B20) kicks on every time my amp turns on (and it's not even plugged into it). It's just doing it's job trying to keep the voltage within normal ranges. It's really nothing to worry about and is actually working well and doing it's job protecting the gear that's attached to it.

Can a person upload videos to the forum? I think that would be easier to explain what is going on...

              BWLover....

Do you have your 1090 plugged into it or directly into the wall. I highly recommend putting the amp into the wall directly. Keep the CDP & Pre on the conditioner. That has been the best sound I've gotten from my equipment when I do that way.

For the video you can, but you have to post it on one of the video sites first and just link it here.

I've been debating plugging the 1090 into the wall vs 1040. The 1040 has never had a problem powering the 1090. It has never went into any boost modes while using the 1090. Although I have never had it excessively loud for long periods of time (live in an concrete high rise.)

My problem with boost kicking on and off is when my tv turns on. As I usually don't power off my amp.

You can upload videos to Youtube and share them here. I'm not sure what you need to explain though. It's doing it's job correctly, unless we read the original statement wrong. Is the 1040 turning boost on then off, and then the 1040 completely shuts down?

Ok. So this first video is me turning on my tv.

And for the hell of it this one is me powering on the RB-1090

That's all completely normal. There isn't spare power just sitting out on the line. The power company has to send more when you require more, this creates a slight voltage drop as they catch up, the more you require the higher the drop. Same thing like having the lights dim when you kick on a vacuum. The 1040 is compensating for this.

does the RLC1040 have input and output for ethernet cable?
                        by BlazeMaster
I looked at the specs on both the RLC1040/1080 and the pictures shows that the RLC1040 has conditioned in/outlet for either phone line or ethernet line. I'm more interested in the conditioning for the ethernet cable, but the specs state that only the RLC1080 has the ability to condition ethernet cables....
