RB 980 BX Amp (2nd thread)

I have an RB 980 BX Stereo Amp. Of course this unit is several years old, but, I love the sound. The amp is working fine, but, over time some items (caps, etc.) can start to drift from original specifications. I don't want to buy a new amp. Has anyone had their amp 'upgraded' with new and or better internal parts from one of the services that list their service on the web. If so, any recommendations as to whether or not to do this or a service you recommend will be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

The first ‘real’ amp I ever had was the RB-980 purchased in 1993.
I just sold it 3 years ago & and it was in perfect working order, but I am sure it would have benefited from some re-capping & TLC on the Rebuild/Refurbish side of things.

I currently have a RB-990 that was R&R’d by the Rotel service center (not a certified service center) that powers the rear surrounds in my system. It is a wonderful amp in its own right and has no need for any concession to other amps in its class.

I have a local shop with one of the best audio electronic technicians in the country. He has performed repair & upgrades to my equipment and by best friend’s including our RB-1090’s and my Carver C-19 Pre. If you are interested in talking to them, I can PM contact info to you.

        Thanks

        WKHANNA (Bill),

Thank you for the reference. I called and they don't open until late. Always nice to get information from someone who has actual experience with a supplier/vendor.

Can't speak enough for Tom and VintageHiFi of Pittsburgh!!! They fixed my RB-1090 for me when it took a surge. Definitely worth sending stuff to them to get fixed and Bill is right, probably one of the best techs in the country!

Definitely no fear of sending something to them... and if they need any Rotel Service Manuals, I can get the manuals to them.

            Rotel RB 980 / 990
            by hanser
            Hi,

I tried a search, but it did not accept the keywords RB 990 or 980. So I ask this way: How much have the Rotel amps improved over the years? I am thinking about buying a used 980 or 990 stereo amp on ebay. With which current amp could they be compared soundwise? If I get a 990 for...

            Pre-Purchase Inspection Service for Used B&W N802
            by boss
            Porsche does it,

            Ferrari does it.

Is the service availble from B&W to confirm the conditions of high end 2nd hand B&W gear such as N802? (Or is it high end enough to call for such service?)

Rotel RSX 1055 and RSP 980
            by greg0629
            Hi:

            I think I have made a purchasing mistake! 8O

I currently own a Rotel RSX 1055 and found an RSP 980 thinking I should or would be able to use this in conjunction with it.
Is is it overkill or redundancy to have the two?
Can I run them as amp and pre/pro?...

Config decision to make: rb-980 or rb-976 for FRONTS help
            by maxwebster
            Hello,

I have been using a bridged rb-976 3x150 for years to power my fronts + centre and a rb-980bx 2x120 to power my surrounds

Now I find that the 980bx has significantly less distortion and better signal-to-noise than my much newer 976

            Stereo is still...
