    Noob question: 1570 and headphones

    Hello,

My first post here. Im currently using a Denon 2807 as my pre/pro with my Rotel amps (1080 and 1085) but am hoping to upgrade to the Rotel 1570 pre/pro to improve my setup.

I have a pair of Sennheiser 650s that I use to watch movies when the wife is gone to bed. I use the Headphone jack in the Denon AVR which seems to power them ok (should get a head phone amp). I noticed that that the front plate of the 1570 does not have a head phone jack and wondered how I would listen to movies with head phones?

I am assuming that you can attach a head phone jack or the connections of a head phone amp to the back of the pre/pro somehow ?!? I looked at the schematic of the back panel and nothing popped out as 'head phone amp' connections or similar.

Could someone please give me some advice on this possibly stupid question.

    Thanks ahead of time.

The best way to attach a headphone amp is to one of the zone outputs, though you have to be aware this will only give you access to the sources you attach via analogue connection.

      Hi All,

I'm setting up my headphones with the RSX-1560 and am getting no audio.

I have RCA's going from zone2-out on the back, into my headphone amp, and then out through my headphones. I have the source of zone 2 audio set to the PS3, and made sure it is not off (by toggling it off and on with the remote). The volume is set to 'fixed'. I've looked through the manual and am seeing no other options to fiddle with. Am I missing something?

Thanks for any help in advance,
      -Thor

you need to send the audio over analog connections from the ps3 in order to get sound out of the other zones.

          Thanks JRachwalski,

Just finished chatting with the dealer on this and you're correct - looks like the Zone's only accept signals from analog sources. :M  I would love to go off on a rant right now on how much this seriously blows considering the cash one pays for the unit... but I'm sure no one wants to hear it

I'd rather not have to swap the ps3 hdmi (the hdmi takes priority over the analog) out everytime I want to listen to tunes via my headphones, so I'll just stick to using my pmp.

          Cheers,
          -Thor

Feel free to rant, but that's the case on 90% of manufacturers out there. I'm not sure what signals the optical output will send, but if it works off of stereo signals from the HDMI inputs, a inexpensive DAC could work.

At least it's not like all the new Yamaha pieces.. Zone 2 still requires analog and none of the HDMI/component video inputs have analog's associated with them. We're stuck with 4 input buttons for the main zone, four completely different input buttons for the same 4 sources on zone 2.

Let me rant on headphones and Rotel. The RC-06 has a front output for headphones, but guess what happens when you plug in your cans? The sound to the speakers is not muted. So the only way I've found to only listen to the headphones is turning off the power amp. It just doesn't seem right to do this. Is this the way it works on the RC-1082?

haha, yeah that sucks jalyra, I was just expecting to hook up my new headphone amp and just listen to some tunes while my significant other read a book in peace. Heck, I suppose I could yank all the speaker out's out and just connect my headphone amp to the f+l pre-outs... ...but it's easier to just turn on an ipod, and give the receiver the bird.

Kevin, didn't know that this is the case with most of the other brands. It's just surprising that Rotel touts the hdmi in's on this baby, and the multi-zone capability, but doesn't specify that you can't use the two together - What a complete and total Gong Show.

Alright, I think I'm done my rant for the evening :-y

Why not use the analogue tape out? Doesn't that work from a HDMI source either?

Probably not. As Kevin mentions, most manufacturers don't provide D/A conversion for the analogue recording and zone x outputs. TBH, I can't remember the last time I saw a receiver or processor with this feature (but maybe someone else has a better memory than me ).

                    /U.

Nope, just tried it and I can confirm it doesn't.

The only AV receivers I've seen that can send digital inputs to the line level analog stereo outputs are from NAD and Yamaha. They describe the feature as "analog mixdown".

Some Denon models do as well. It's something that has only happened recently.

My wife once informed me my Marantz PM7200 does the same-whilst positively crankin' some Black Sabbath 8O . Fortunately my phono amp and CD player have nice (phono) and great (CD) headphone sections. I can also disengage the speaker outs with the A/B speaker selector buttons.

Took delivery of the Plantronics Backbeat 903+ Bluetooth headphones the other day from Amazon to replace my ailing Motorola SD-9HD headphones the other day and I thought I would share with you my thoughts on them.

                              Hello,

I'm currently auditioning a Shiit Audio Asgard headphone amplifier with my Rotel 1570 processor. I have the amplifier connected to the line level tape output of the Rotel processor.

However, I also have a Squeezebox Touch (via digital coax) connected to an Arcam...

First off and be advised, this amp has piles of gain, both in the low gain and in the high gain settings (Not sure which one I like better yet). This amp will have no problem powering ANYTHING you connect it too!!. I would not call...
