    Dolby Digital Light

I had my latop hooked up to my PC and did a test for Dolby and DTS, the lights came on both times. When I hook my DVD player up with with digital coax, I can only get the red DTS to light up. I am testing with only 2 speakers hooked up, saving for surrounds.

What does it take to make the red Dolby Digital light to illuminate ??

As far as getting the DD indicator to illuminate, you need to have a DD soundtrack equipped DVD. This is easy, all of them are. The DVD player will, by default play the DD track, whether it is a 5.1 or 2 channel.

Some players need to be configured to pass either DD, PCM or both on the digital output. Have you done anything like that?

BTW, how did you happen to test that dts works properly?

Make sure you go into the DVD player's setup menu and turn dolby-digital to bitstream.

Thanks for the quick response guys. The DVD player is a couple of years old, but it is supposed to output Dolby and DTS and HDCD like on the symbols marked on it.

The DTS works properly, I select it from the disc menu and the light comes on. I select dolby 5.1 and nothing lights up. Perhaps I will look in the setup menu of the DVD player menu.

I bought the RSX-1570 thinking I could hook from my latop blueray --> to TV HDMI --> to TV optical out --> to RSX 1570 optical in. Stupid TV down mixes to 2 channel output. HDMI is absolutley silly when trying to protect their signal.

In any case, you are going to lose the lossless tracks when connecting the 1570 via optical. Try connecting your bluray source to the 1570 and then connect your display to the 1570, all via HDMI.

This will only work if your laptop can send audio over HDMI. Most cards can and it shows up as a seperate audio device on your computer.

Kevin D you were absolutely bang on. I switched it over to Bitstream, poof the DD light came on. I was listening to the DIana Krall DVD, sound too much bass when I used Dolby 2 channel down mix. So then I turned it back to PCM immediately afterwards.

The rsx 1570 does not pull audio from the HDMI connectors, it is pass through only. On my Laptop passes PCM audio over the HDMI connector. I am very confused since I have to set my laptop device from speakers to SPDIF in order to pass PCM over HDMI. Is there such a thing as passing SPDIF over HDMI ?? I tried contacting Hewlett Packard, the help desk had no clue what they were talking about.

There is no way on the RSX-1057 to play TrueHD or DTS-MA, oh well !!

Now all that is left is to get my laptop to cooperate audio wise, no small task !!! Some really great info on this forum, kept me from pulling my hair out.

I'm assuming you have a 1057, not a 1570. Both are valid models, but two very different beasts.

Yes there is such a thing as SPDIF over HDMI, so that is valid. If you want the new formats, you'll have to send decoded audio over the multi-channel inputs of the 1057. Best bet is to get a USB sound card with 5.1 outputs on it. Have this sitting there connected to the 1057.Plug it into the laptop when you want to watch blu-ray, etc...

OOps got the nymbers jumbled, apologies. Correct it is the rsx 1057. That's a good thing to know that SPDIF can be passed over an HDMI cable. I am going to do some more research on Vista, and how to send a signal I am happy with.
