I have an RCD1072 CD player and RX1067 reciever with premium power cords, ac conditioner and interconnects. My speakers are PSB Stratus and the sub is M&K. I'm considering upgrading my CD player with an external DAC. Anyone have any experiences or suggestions?

Your CD player has a pretty good DAC already. I am not sure how you have your system connected but, If you are using the Digital Coax to the receiver using the processor in the receiver to crossover the subwoofer it will not make much sense to get a better DAC. If you are using the receiver in BYPASS and have the sub connected through the speaker wires you might get a bit of improvement with a external DAC but, yet again the 1072 is pretty darn good. PS audio has good DACs.- Bottom

Lots of well respected mastering engineers have been using these in their studios.
The DAC1 USB has been discontinued. This model has been replaced by the DAC2 Series D/A converters. The DAC2 series has higher performance and many more features. You can try the Benchmark, if you don't like it or don't think it is much better the DAC in your 1072, just send it back, pay for the one-way shipping, and sleep well knowing you like what you have.
Or demo a Cambridge Audio 840c, which allows you run any digital signal through it and make use of its incredible DACs. Best CDp I have ever heard for under 3K. A true steal at the current street price.

by mb225Does anyone have experience with external DACs? My current system is great but I still find it to be edgy or bright sometimes. I’ve been reading a lot of reviews on DACs lately and I was wondering if that should be my next upgrade? A lot of the reviews of DACs seem to address jitter and use phrases...-

by John BeaversI've been toying with the idea of getting an external DAC. The issue is, my CD player had one of the best rated DACs of the internal variety when I bought it 2 years ago. It's a CalAudio CL-5. I'm wondering what type of improvement or change in the sound would result with the...-
