    PS3 and RSP1068 - upsampling

    When I configure my PS3 to upsample and output LPCM @ 176.4 kHz, my RSP1068 does not recognize the signal. Configuring the PS3 for LPCM @ 88.2 kHz works just fine however. Does this processor support the specific sampling frequency of 176.4 kHz? The manual says only "up to 192 kHz".

    I don't believe it will do 176.4 and 192k has been proven difficult to get to work.

      Actually my 1068 decodes at 176k and 192k pretty often. Usually it depends on the disc, like I have a couple Classic label discs that decode at 192k, one or two Neil Young releases, and a few other things I can't think of right now that do also.

      One day I noticed prologic II wasn't engaged and the 1068 was decoding a regular cd at 176k. I got all excited thinking there had been some sort of wonderful manufacturing error, then I realized I had accidentally hit the "remaster" button on my dvd player and the 1068 was decoding the upsampled bitstream. That's caught me a couple times... so far, lol. Nice option to have though.

        I have not gotten anything higher than 88.2K to work with my 1098. I just figured the 1098 couldn't decode that high of a resolution... Dunno, but it doesn't work for me either.

          You might check the output resolution capability of your transport. I don't think all or most cd/dvd players output at 192k through coaxial or optical. I believe a lot of them were limited to 96k because of copy-protection paranoia.

            The SPDIF interface is really only defined as 2Ch up to 24/96, or whatever that comes out to bandwidth wise. I think it's something like 9.2Mbps. If the word size drops to say 12bits, you could squeeze 176.4KHz through. I'm not sure it works like that, but in truth I've never been able to get anything higher than 96KHz to work over SPDIF, even with decent equipment.

              I'm using a Panasonic dvd-f87 changer as a transport, and it gives a choice of pcm outputs of 48k, 96k, or 192k. But like I said I haven't seen this on a lot of dvd players.

                I have two players that will do 192K (Panny S97, Oppo 980), but it only works over HDMI, not SPDIF. It could be a limitation on the pre/pro side, but again SPDIF is only supposed to do 96K.

                  Is DTS-HD MA possible with PS3 and RSP-1068?
                  by bnieman
                  Hello!

                  I currently own a Rotel RSP-1068 and am considering a PS3 for Blu-Ray playback. It's my understanding the PS3 can now decode DTS-HD MA and send it over HDMI or Optical as a LPCM uncompressed signal after a firmware update released in late April of 2008.

                  Is this true?...

                  Lossless audio formats / Digital audio in repects to LPCM, DTS-HD-MA, and Dolby True
                  by bnieman
                  Hello,

                  As I continue my search to incorporate the new lossless surround sound codecs into my home theater, I stopped in at my dealer to get his advice and possibly test drive a couple of units.

                  We ran into a disagreement about the nature of lossless formats. It is my understanding...

                  PS3 Output settings to Parasound C2
                  by Hirogen
                  My PS3 is connected to my Parasound C2 via Optical Out. This works very well for the sound. However I wonder which audio output options I can safely select on the PS3, I see the following options;

                  1. DD5.1 ---> already selected and works
                  2. DTS 5.1 ---> already selected and...

                  Classe SSP-600 and the new PS3 Slim audio output.
                  by digitalshah
                  I have a SSP-600 and thinking about getting a new PS3 Slim. Will the new PS3 internally decode and output multichannel audio (DD Tru HD & DTS HD Master Audio) through its optical output in PCM or LPCM format to be played through a SSP-600 processor without downgrading it to 2 channel? What...

                  PS3 and wav files
                  by savage25xtreme
                  I have read in several places that the PS3 can play wav files with no problem. Also in the audio setup in the PS3 I can pick 24 bit 176.4 kHz... so what am I doing wrong here. I download the tracks from the link in Thomas's post and using Nero burn them to a CD as .wav audio files, but when I try...
