    System Suggestions Wanted

    I'm in the maeket for a new audio system. THe last unit I bought was a Pioneer SX-6, 23 years ago. One option I'm looking at is Rotel. I'm thinking of the following:

    RC 1082 Preamp
    RB 1072 Amp
    RT 1084 Tuner
    RCD 1072 CD

    Any suggested changes and an estimate of what kind of dealer discount I could expect would be appreciated. I using some older Bose 901's now, but may upgrade shortly.

      Some feedback - but only partial help I'm afraid.

      Firstly - the world of Hifi has moved on considerably in the last 23 years. In particular the maturity of CD technology hs forced improvements in amp and speaker design.

      RC 1082 Preamp / RB 1072 Amp - I've not heard these yet.
      RT 1084 Tuner - I'm looking for a report on this; I don't know anyone who owns one.
      RCD 1072 CD - excellent for the price, musical, very, very quiet between tracks (implies good signal to noise ratio). Don't hestitate to buy.

      I'm sure the sound will be a huge improvement over the Pioneer, but the Bose speakers may not be a good match (too much boom and tizz, and not fast responding enough for the circuitry).

      Prices - there was a thread on discounts about 6 months ago; and I seem to remember 15 - 20% being possible. There was also significant push back from some correspondants "don't mess up the dealers; they're offering a service and struggling as it is".

      If you don't mind buying used from fellow enthusiasts you might want to look on the Audiogon website. There is usually a regular turnover of nearly new gear - especially the CD player as people upgrade to multichannel home theater and use the home theater DVD system to play CDs. The 1072 appears to sell for roughly $400.

          I have an RC-1082 pre, I'm pretty satisfied with it. Way better than my old 1068 when it comes to stereo.

                  I would like to buy a stereo pre amp and im wondering which one to get. I only plan on hooking up a rotel RCD-1072 and two RB-1080's. Is the 1082 going to have any difference in all aspects of sound quality over the 1070?

                  Rotel seems to have quite a few CD player and I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between them.

                  Is there a difference between the RCC-1055 and the RCD-1072 (except for the fact that RCC is a 5 disk changer)? I mean is there a difference in quality?

                  I was in a hi-fi store the other day, and mentioned that I had the Rotel RCD-1072 CD player. The sales dude then mentioned that I "did not have Rotel's top of the range cd player", and proudly pointed to a RCD-02 CD player in the corner.
