    PS3 Help with Rotel 1057

We have bought the munchkins a PS3 for the holidays. Naturally I want it to run movies and game sound through my speaker set up. I have a 1057 that I am using as a pre-pro, I also have an OPPO that I use for standard DVD's. I know this is going to sound dumb (with a capital D), but can I get 7.1 out of the 1057 with the PS3 doing blue ray? What type of connections do I need to run through the 1057 (should I run HDMI from the PS3 to the 1057 and (I already have hdmi running from the 1057 to the TV) to give me the best performance does this give me the sound I need or do I need to run optical connetions to get the sound. I have heard a nasty rumour that the PS3 does not support analogue is this true?

    Thanks in advance.

The most you can do is 5.1 DD/DTS with Blu-ray through an optical cable. The 1057 is only HDMI 1.1 and has no DACs to do the hi-res audio. You can push PCM 2.0 to the receiver, but not 5.1/7.1.

If you had a Blu-Ray player that did 7.1 analog out to the 1057, then you could use the multi-channel through connections to achieve true 7.1 lossless sound.

I have found that the 5.1 DD/DTS tracks on most Blu-Ray discs better than the ones on the DVDs...so it will still sound really good!
    Digital Audio makes me Happy.

You only need HDMI 1.1. The PS3 will do PCM 5.1/7.1 through HDMI.

Sound Dobly 5.1ch, DTS 5.1ch, LPCM 7.1ch, AAC, others

You can send that to your receiver and get lossless in all it's glory. I'm doing that with my 1069 and it's pure bliss.

Edit: My bad, 1057 only does video switching via HDMI.

I have recently purchased the Rotel RSX 1057 receiver. Also grabbed the OPPO 981 dvd player. I have run the HDMI cable from the OPPO to the 1057. Then HDMI cable from the 1057 to my LCD TV. I get video and sound to the TV so I know that both audio and video are going through the 1057. No sound to my...

I like to share some of recent experience with my new 3D TV setup with my current Rotel RSP1098/RMB1095 setup. I am hoping this information is useful for anyone with the same configuration out there that are interested to take the 3D plunge.

          by tpirovol
          Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone uses the HDMI switcher in the Rotel. I have my Cable box, PS3 and soon to be Blu-ray with Analog 7.1 going HDMI to my tv. The problem is I only have 2x HDMI's on my tv so just wondering how good the picture quality is using the HDMI passthrough...
