Rotel 1098 HDMI upgrade completed with picture

    Good afternoon everyone,

I had to send my RSP-1098 to Rotel for a recurring LCD display issue. It seems that the relays were upgraded from 2A to 5A as well as some other minor circuit modifications. While it was there I requested a HDMI component upgrade, which they graciously honored, (thanks Rotel), of course the upgrade was an additional cost, but the LCD was covered under warranty. It is being shipped back today, and I will probably receive it Monday, I will provide a status update after testing. BTW, it only passes the video (one HDMI out and two HDMIs in), no audio is passed through. I could use more HDMIs in, but I am happy with what I can get.

I await with great anticipation. Your comments and/or suggestions are welcome.

    Peace and blessings,

    Azeke

Everything I've been told (and read on the 1098's webpage) it's 3 in, 1 out. Guess we'll find out Monday.

Azeke, c'mon you broke the display on purpose :B :T
let us now how it goes. I'm thinking of upgrading it at some stage next summer. How much do they charge for the upgrade?

I spoke to my dealer last week: he was very surprised to hear about this HDMI upgrade, so he called Rotel Germany who knew nothing about it either. So this option isn't available in Europe Rotel Germany added the 1099 (with HDMI) will arrive Sept/Oct of 2008.

Yes, my apologies, this upgrade it only available in North America for $300.00 US. Version 1.1, 3HDMI's in 1 out (yes Kevin, you were right 8) ). I did receive my 1098 yesterday via UPS, connected all the components, tested the HDMI inputs, they worked for each component that was connected, PS3, Pioneer Elite 59avi, and D*TV HR20-700 (DVR). The orginal HDMI switch I purchased would not accept the Pioneer Elite 59avi video signal. Could I have done it cheaper with another HDMI switch box, sure, but I already have enough components on the rack .

I will test further later this week and provide any status changes.

I spoke with Rotel/B&W tech service, and they didn't mention anything about a 1099, but I didn't ask either.

              Peace and blessings,

              Azeke

Wow, I was thinking of doing that upgrade, but not for $300. That's insane to pay that price when the switch boxes are so much cheaper.

Glad it works correctly though, I would definitely hope so for that price!

                    Update:
I am unable to view the menu via HDMI on the LCD screen, but the monitor will only show the menu via component.

I have an RSX-1057 and cannot view the menu via HDMI so I have a set of component cables hooked up.

Mjb, I will try to provide a picture by this weekend, but it's a busy and most wonderful time of the year .

Sean, I also have component cable for video, but it's just a small hassle to move over from HDMI to component and view the menu via the screen. I just use the LCD anyway, in case I want to tweak my configuration while a movie is on, so that I won't disturb others.

                          Peace and blessings,

                            Happy New Year Everyone,

Here is a photo of the upgraded HDMI interface. I haven't had much time for further evaluation due to the Holidays, but I have not experienced any video issues as of this posting.

                              Interesting...

Have you had any issues with the upgrade or is everything still working as it was intended...

I am seriously considering doing this with my 1098. I just purchased a BR player and now I have 3 HDMI devices and only two inputs on my TV....

hee hee, I got the Oppo 3 port HDMI for $99 and have no issues with it. To me that's more the price this upgrade should be for the 1098.

No, I haven't experienced any video or other issues thus far with the HDMI (ver 1.1) upgrade, knock on wood. The software version 2.23 seems stable, and it is compatible with my current equipment (see previous post). Certainly there are less expensive options, but, it is what it is, and I am a happy camper. Isn't that what really matters?

                                          1. Do nothing/just use optic audio and wait for 2-3 years for 3-D/HDMI 1.4 to mature
