    What remote are you using?

Do you use stock Rotel remotes or did you buy a universal?
If so, do you have an opinion about what a good universal remote would be for Rotel products? I'm leaning towards a purchase of something programmable for my RSP-1068/RT-1084/Denon and Yamaha DVD players.

Eric: I think I remember an old thread that you mentioned some.

    thanks in advance,
    Roger

I use the Harmony 676 (have two -- one for 5.1 setup, and one for 2.0 setup in another room). Works great with both systems. I could not live without one at this point...makes it so much easier on the wife! 8)

We sell remotes from Universal Remote Control. I think they work great. I have used Harmony remotes before, but since you have to be on line to program them they are difficult for our installers in the field. Some of our customers still have dial up (it takes a long time with dial up) and some don't even have the internet (I know it sounds strange, but it's true). Plus, with the URC remotes, if you have to edit a single button it takes less time. I really like the MX-900 myself and I'm looking forward to using an MX-810 but I haven't received one yet.

I use the Universal Remote Control MX 3000. It is intuitive and easy to program. Plus it can control several different brands of lighting. The remote that came with my rsp 1098 was difficult to use and it devoured bateries. Plus this thing is so easy to operate my wife can use it too.

I am a big fan of the URC remotes...I have the MX 700 and the MX 850. They are very easy to program and the IR on them acts like it is wired to the components.

Can't imagine not having it. If you have internet access, it's the way to go.

I have the URC MX500 and also a Harmony 890. I got the harmony because the MX500 was getting a little long in the tooth and wanted to try out the online programming of the 890. Funny thing is, I hardly use the 890. Even though the online programming is nice I actually find it to be more difficult to setup than the mx500. I do like that the 890 is smaller and more comfortable to hold but not matter what I keep going back to the mx500. Personal preferance will play a huge role in your decision. In addition to what I already said the mx500 just seems a lot more solid to me, the 890 feels much more "breakable".

                  Ditto,
I have been programming them for years and love them. I personally own the mx950. I'm so looking for to the 810. It looks cool. I have the software and think it's wizard type programming. Wierd but it is what it is. I have to get used to it.

3 x Universal Remote MX850's (Cinema, Bedroom, Lounge) with 1xMRF250 and 1xMRF300 receivers for kit location points... I can control the whole house's kit from any of the locations/remotes. Thats the beauty of using a remote with RF.

Works great when setup right. The biggest issue with these units is resolving interference over RF signal. But the MRF300 with remote aerial location solved this big time. They also got this new micro channel RF freq on latest models which is pretty cool and suppossed to reduce interference and improve reliable opp allot. IR signal is very reliable and there are often updates to the Database of IR codes for hundreds of units of kit. The only one I have not found is the Velodyne DD sub series remote codes, and it seems these cannot be learned either ?

Not as robust as Crestron (but much easier to program) and the RF units could do with some RS232 ports.

I would get them again for sure ... especially with the new narrow RF band used.

Hello, maybe I am missing something but I only use the Rotel RR-1050 to control all my devices. Ok it is not always user friendly but it do the job.

I own a Harmony 890 and love it. It controls everything perfectly. I don't like touch screen remotes so it does everything I could want. The Z-Wave RF works wonderful as well as IR. They have improved the software in the last few months also. When I first bought the remote it was not quite as good (the programming software). I am not sure how I survived before owning it.

I'm using the Universal Remote Control RF30 (URC) with great success. A great remote control. Yes, the Rotel RR-1050 and RR-969 are great remotes too. I was using a Logitech Harmony remote but it has some problems at times with losing settings and causes you to have to resetup on the computer online again. I got fed-up with some of the bugs with that remote and took it back and really all together like the Universal Remote Control RF30 much better and you can customize the LCD buttons to your likes without having to use a computer to do it, and it's quick and easy. It also has all my Rotel equipment pre-codes already in it, but it's a learning remote too, and that part of it works very well too.
