    RCD-06 vs RCD-1072

At this point in time I have my BW703 attached to my RB1080. Now it is the time to buy a decent CD player and what is available from Rotel are RCD-06 and RCD-1072. I am not familiar at all with those players,

what would you recommend for a 2 channel, music only system?
    RCD-06 or RCD-1072?

I play latin, classical, jazz and some pop ...

    Thank you for your help!

I realize I am committing Rotel heresy with this personal opinion, but if it were my money, I would look at (and audition) either the Cambridge Audio 740C or consider a Benchmark DAC.

For 2-ch redbook, is there anything under $1k that can truly compete?

I have to agree. I think Rotels great but avoid the CD players. I had a Benchmark... excellent sound but sold it for the somewhat better, IMO, Cambridge Audio 840C CD player. -Russ

The Rotel CD players are at least worth checking out. When I bought mine I tested it against many others side by side (inlcuding a tube cdp and a couple of cambridge audio models) and personally thought the Rotel was best. Its subjective for sure but the 1072 is hard to beat without spending at least $1k.

At $550 on Audiogon, your point is well made from the value side of the debate.

The crazy thing is I dont listen to a lot of CD's but was so impressed by the sound that I bought one. I will admit that Cambridge Audio CDP's are getting recommended often and I am getting curious enough to give them a listen (I dont remember what models I listened when I was checking out players).

What do the 740 and 840 go for new?

              Prices from the AudioAdvisor site:

              Cambridge - 640C v2 - CD Player $600

              Cambridge - 740C CD Player $1000

              Cambridge - 840C CD Player $1375

The Big thing about the 840C is that it will upsample all your redbook CD's to 24 bit.

What is the going price for a new 1072 these days?

Also, our friend, b&wfan, who started the thread, is from Caracas, Venezuela.
I am not sure what other options and pricing he has available to him, there.

I cant remember excatly but the RCD-1072 is approx $699. I guess based on price alone its comparable to the CA 640c.

When looking at the RCD-06 vs RCD-1072, its easy the RCD-1072 might cost a bit more but definitely sounds a lot better!

I would suggest to go listen to them and you will find that the RCD-1072 offers more value for money.

Since you already have the rotel amps better get same brand for the CDP but I recommend RCD1072 dont get bother with the 24bit upscaling, its the synergy between the system is important. Rotel designers choose burrbrown 1732 because it meets their requirements.

                        I love my RCD 1072. It replaced a 15yr old RCD 855.

                          Hello all

Over the last year I have been slowly been drawn into the digital server approach to storing music and recently bought a used Benchmark DAC1 USD. The said unit is connected to my media PC, my TV and my RCD1072 is now serving as a CD transport.. So far I’m very impressed...

                          by Jnorth1178
I presently own a Rotel RC 1072. I am thinking of buying the new Cambridge Azur 740c. My Stereo Guru says that this would definitely improve the quality of sound in my system. My system includes: Primaluna Prologue Three Pre amp. Anthem MCA 20 amp, B7W 8-5s speakers. I would like to get ideas from...

Just picked up a pair of 683's. Love them and my new Cambridge 740c upsampling CD player. Now am interested in a new (or used) integrated amp.

New to this level of audio, so I look forward to lots of advice.

Can spend up to 1500$, though don't feel compelled to ...

The Cambridge Audio 651W is now my new go-to amplifier for small and portable for speaker measurements. I got spoiled by the Benchmark AHB2- the 651W isn't truly an AHB2 replacement, but it's as close as you have any right to expect...
