    RSP-1068 vs RSP-1098

    Hi,

I am trying to decide between these two units.

Besides the LCD screen, what does the 1098 have over the 1068? Is it better in surround? or 2 channel?

    More inputs?

Nick, I would try doing some searching. There have been a number of threads on this subject over the past several years. Apparently, the 1098 does have some substantial upgrades, such as better DACs, etc. To me, however, it did not seem worth the difference in $ vs. the 1068.

        Nick,

We tried the 1067/1068/1098 when shopping and did think there was a noticeable improvement in HT sound stage when we bought the 1098. Pricing was also not as big an issue as you might think...

I have had them both. Without question the 1098 wins, hands down and the 1068 is a nice piece.
The 1098 has 3 power supplies, 1 for video, 1 for analog and 1 for digital. It’s built on component technology and it has better dacs and opamps.
If you can pay the higher price its VERY worth it.

            Hi there,

Also had both. In the UK, the list prices are £1K sterling for the 1068 and £2.3K for the 1098. Had I been paying full price, I'd have stuck with the 1068 as there were lots of other things I could have brought and/or upgraded with the difference. I started with the 1068 but had the chance to upgrade to a 1098 for just over £300 pounds - no brainer. Stronger performance on AV, but MUCH stronger on Hi-fi stereo and as I currently run the one system for both AV and Music, but am still heavily into music with a decent CD player and turntable rigged through the 1098, then I am very happy I upgraded.

            cheers,

            Dave.

PS - Just noticed your sig. with your speakers listed. That's a very nice front stage indeed. I'm sure the 1098 would be able to take full advantage of these in AV, but if you listen to music through them as well, then it should be no contest unless you absolutely cannot get any sort of deal and have to pay the full prices.

Here in the UK, the full RRP of the 1098 at almost 2 and half times that of the 1068...would actually make me think hard, but if the gap is less pronounced over in Oz and there are deals to be had (which there should be, as whilst both units are still current models, they've also both been around a few years now), I'd still go 1098.

Both are great units though - Enjoy either way!!

              Regards,

              David.

                1098, 1068,1067, & 1056 owners, need you to test a bug.

I've found a DTS bug on a 1068 I was installing the other day. I recreated it on our store 1068, and even my home 1098. Rotel is looking into it, but I'm not sure how seriously. As people have time, if you could do a test for me I would appreciate it.

Play something in DTS. DTS music...

As promised, HERE is V4.0 of the "Wish-list" for the Rotel RSP-1098 (Updated Sunday 7 March 2004).

                Some key points:
                • It now incorporates the RSP-1068 and the RSX-1067, with the latest version of firmware for these.
                • It has been updated to reflect the capabilities

Good day. I am ugrading from my RSP-985, due to its lack of component inputs/output and my television only having one component input, in order to take advantage of Comcast adding HDTV in my area. Has anyone had any problems or issues with either the 1098 or 1068 and HDTV? Thank you.

Does anone have any word on wether Rotel will be offerring software updates to the new formats? Since the bitrates are not higher than required for DTS 24/96 there should be sufficient processing power in both the 1098 and 1068 to handle the new formats.

In case anyone hasn't seen this link, I thought I'd jot it down here. I also thought it might provide for some fresh ideas/discussion on additional wish list items for our own Rotel 1098/1068 etc products ...
