For those interested, Rotel South Africa (having contacted Rotel Europe) advised me today that "the RVE1060 and RSX1058 do not share the same chipset. The RVE1060 chipset is not capable of 1080p therefore no software revision will add 1080p functionality".

Can someone tell me if the RVE-1060 can convert an incoming 1080i signal to 720p.
My current TV bobs 1080i to 1080p and then down converts to 720p so it is throwing out half the resolution. -

I haven't been using my RVE-1060 for 6 months due to moving house but finally put it back into our theatre system on the weekend. I have it acting as a HDMI switch so that the HTPC and STB can share the second input to our HD950 projector.
