I assume you mean the RB-980 not RB-890. If so they do sound very similar but the RB-990 has better authority in the bass. It has a bigger power supply (it's 200 watts per channel and the RB-980 is 120 watts per channel) and can handle bigger speakers with less strain. Both amps can sound a little soft in the treble so make sure you listen to them on your speakers if you can. The RB-990 has a little less grain or edge in the mid as well.

I've been using a RB-980BX for 10 + years and I love the sound. Plenty of power and very detailed. IMHO.
I used to have some relatively inefficient speakers, early '90s Advent Heritages and the 980 drove them just fine. Then I moved onto some Paradigm Monitor 9s, first V4 now V5. They're much more efficient and can get really loud.Main System

by RoManHi everybody,
I'm considering a pre-amp for my RB 1090 and RMB 1095. I am looking at Rotel RSP 1068 (used) or an Outlaw 990. I would say around 1100 bucks or under would suffice for the moment.
I considered the RSP 1069 but it is very expensive and has many issues that...-

by toledoguyI'm in the process of rebuilding my audio system from the ground up. I don't have unlimited funds, but at the same time I can spend a reasonable amount of money, I'm not going to spend $20,000 for a new system, but I'll spend several thousand. I enjoy movies and need a good set up for HT. But I also...-
