How much is important the cable in the system?

Hi,

Little question:
the cabling
1.) pre to ampli (RCA/cinch)
2.) HDMI/Component
3.) coaxial/optical

how much is import for video/sound quality in our HT system??
how much is "the right budget" to go spend for a good and correct cabling?
(ex. the pre&ampli = $ 5000.-, cable = $ 500.-??) i think if my dvd is on $ 1k.
i don't go out $ 500 for a coaxiall cable or?!
i hope do you understand what is the question.

Some people say 10% of your total budget should be set aside for cables. That would be the total spend on all your cables not by equipment type. Other people would say cables make little difference. As mentioned cable discussions can get out of hand so I'll simply say borrow some cables if you can and experiment at home to find out what is right for you.
