need a phono stage with 1098?

Hi, new to the world of vinyl. Will I need a seperate phono stage with the 1098 and a mmf-5 tt? I'm trying to figure things out as I go.

If the mmf-5 only comes with phono level outputs, you will need a phono preamp to use it with the 1098. There's several threads on the forum for recommended preamps, but I'm sure more will chime in with more experience.

I have heard good things about the Bellari tube phono pre - and it is very affordable. Maybe with the rise in vinyl usage Rotel will start to put phono inputs on the newer models of pre/pro coming out - lets hope so. I do have a phono input on my RC-1070 & RC-1090 but I have yet to add a TT.

erikm12, how do you like your Music Hall and the included cartridge?

        Thanks for the input.
Miner.....I am finishing out my basement and have my speakers and pre only. Thats it. I know what amp I want and am looking for a good deal on a mmf-5.
I'll get the amp here shortly and as soon as I find a deal on a used tt get it. I was hoping not to have to buy a phono pre. I am new to the world of vinyl, well at the level above the tt's of 25 ish years ago.
Hopefully I will have everything done in a month.

erikm12, I'm using a Sansui SR-525 direct drive turntable that I bought in London in 1976, connected to the phono stage of my Rotel RC-1070 preamp. The sound is deliciously creamy.

            RDC-7's Phono Stage
            by Burke Strickland
Anyone else "into" vinyl? NOT the kind you wear -- such as 1970's disco pants :>) -- but rather, the kind you spin for music. In other words, LPs!

One nice feature of the RDC-7, which you won't find in many competing models, is the built-in phono stage. Given the superb...

            What "phono stage" for 1098? or I have a chance of RC990BX & RB990BX
            by sprout
            Hi all,

I wish to run my Linn Sondek with my 1098/1070/1075

Can anyone recommend a good match for a phono stage?

I know Rotel have done phono stages in the past, any good?

I can also at the moment buy second hand a RC990BX & RB990BX combo...

            RC-1090 phono stage
            by miner
Have recently got back inot vinyl. Rig consists of a Rega P5, Exact cartridge & TTPSU. I am happy with the sound but am always tweaking. Would a outboard phono stage <$500 improve the sound over my onboard PS? A writer who did a review on the RC-1070 said the phono stage was worth the cost...
