    What "phono stage" for 1098? or I have a chance of RC990BX & RB990BX

    Hi all,

I wish to run my Linn Sondek with my 1098/1070/1075

Can anyone recommend a good match for a phono stage?

I know Rotel have done phono stages in the past, any good?

I can also at the moment buy second hand a RC990BX & RB990BX combo (£200 GBP) which has a phono stage in the pre. Anyone have this combo and care to comment on using this in terms of quality compared to say adding a Musical Fidelity X-LPS V3 to my 1098/1070

    Would appreciate the feedback.

    Thanks

Here are some phono pre's at price points from cheap to crazy:

At the budget level, the Creek, Pro-Ject are well-regarded... I have the predecessor to the Parasound shown there, and it is a dead-quiet overachiever for $150.

Up the chain, the Lehman, EAR are well-regarded... might be an excellent match for that Linn.

    No experience with the Rotel.

Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring
production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid.

Thanks for the response, not ready to sell the car yet for the bottom of the page gear :E but I do like the look of the Parasound. Voltage switchable too, so a good buy from the States for me even with carriage.

      Cheers

Wheather or not you get a separate phono stage, the 990 combo sounds like a great bargain.

Well for starters I have picked up this "bargain" :T

I will still look for info/advice as requested.

Not sure I have the space for all of this :E , a good listen may decide

Thanks to people who have responded so far

So, after a fair amount of time, what's your finding???

I have had the RC990BC / RB980BX combo since 1994 and think it is an exceptional value. What is your feeling?

I still have the RC-990BX pre and 2x RB-990BX amps and have to say although not in use at the moment, I would not like to part with them.

Have been using Parasound for a while but just going back to Rotel again.
Recently picked up a RMB-995 and I am vey pleased, ahhh, that rotel sound.

                  Carry on enjoying

I had the Pro-ject phono box then upgrade to the Cambridge Audio 640P box. Comparison on an RSX-1055 at the time was a clear improvement (can't recall now why but it was "just better"). Works very well through the new 1098/1077 combo sitting at home...

                      by collectslps
My local hifi dealer suggests I consider a preamp upgrade or audition the Musical Fidelity A5 integrated. I want to hear more detail musically. All my gear is mid 90's stuff, but I believe very good entry level equipment. Will appreciate suggestions for "next steps." I also am unsure how...

Just released. Good news for all of us. I'm still waiting on some other things that should be out about now, like the ZCD. Keep it up, Parasound! It's too bad that I don't use vinyl myself.

Hello, I am in the process of relocating some of my HT equipment from my Family Room to my basement (power equipment) or to the rear of my Family Room (DVD; CD; Phono).

One of the pieces that is moving is my Phono. I currently run the Phono using a Rotel Phone Pre-Amp connected to my...

                      RDC-7's Phono Stage
                      by Burke Strickland
Anyone else "into" vinyl? NOT the kind you wear -- such as 1970's disco pants :>) -- but rather, the kind you spin for music. In other words, LPs!

One nice feature of the RDC-7, which you won't find in many competing models, is the built-in phono stage. Given the superb...
