    Whence Dolby Pro Logic II?

I am very close to purchasing the AV32R for a dedicated home theater that I am building, but I thought it best to wait until it has Pro Logic II. (I am about 4 to 6 weeks away from purchase, since I am waiting on a projector and screen to ship also.) If I understand correctly, the new units already have ES/EX right? When is it expected that the Pro Logic II upgrade will be completed and out to the dealers?

Also, Buzz, I saw what you said on another thread about matching speakers with the rest of the system being more important than matching an amp and a pre/pro, and I know I will have to listen to my proposed system in my own environment to evaluate it, but I wanted to get your opinion (assuming you have one) on matching the AV32R with two Citation 7.1 amps, and the M&K 150THX speaker system. The other option is some Definitive Technology bipolar towers that I may be able to get for a good price. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

BTW, I did see the AV32R at the Dolby booth at CES and, in addition to the great reviews it's been getting, it really made me start to salivate.

Pro Logic II will be an option, one that is loaded into the unit if you want it. SO wether you get the processor yesterday or tomorrow is of little consequence. It already has EX and ES.
I would tend towards the M&K but that is my presonal prejudice towards using speakers similar to what things are mixed on. There are a lot of studios using M&K for mixing. And I like having my sub seperate from the main L&R speakers as there is more placement flexibility. But ultimately the speakers are the most coloured of the component, you'll have to decide if you like their colouration...

Buzz, are you saying that Pro Logic II will be installed by the dealer when it is available, or is it something that the user could install by download on a computer? If the latter, do the units come with the necessary hook up to do the download? Any idea when the "option" of Pro Logic II will be available and what the additional cost will be?

We would generally encourage dealer invlovement, but it is not a difficult thing to do. It does require an adaptor/cable that can convert the serial port RS-232 of your computer to talk with our TAGtronic bus. That sells for $125.
I'm guessing the DPLII upgrade will run around $150 or so. We are scheduled to release it this month, but given that units are manufactured in the UK, and that it takes a month for them to cross the ocean, as well as time for the existing warehoused goods to be sold through, well, it will be months before it comes in a new unit. OTOH, any unit can be upgraded the day it is released if one has the TAGtronic adaptor, our update software (free) and the new code.
Personally, I like to have Christmas all year long. Meaning, get a new toy, play with it, then upgrade it a few months later and it's like getting a whole new toy. But cheaper ...
So I guess what I'm saying is get an AV32R whenever your budget allows, upgrade it, well, whenever your budget allows.

I recently noticed that my receiver does not detect dolby signal from the satellite correctly (for both OTA and DirecTV signals). From a news release I just saw of the first receiver, (Onkyo) with the new Dolby Pro Logic IIz technology that extracts to 9.1 channels. I chased down this technology report on the Dolby website. Very interesting.
I'm surprised that I hadn't heard of this before! My thoughts in another post...
