    Rotel RSP 976 VS 1066

I'm looking at upgrading from 976 to 1066. Apart from 6/7.1 and PL2 are there any quality, processing sound differences.

I had the 976 for a year and a half before moving up to the 1066. I never could tell a difference in the processing capabilities of the two units. Aside from the features you mentioned, and the adjustable universal crossover) the 1066 doesn't have much over the 976. Both are great units, although I must say I really like Dolby Surround II for TV and (sometimes) music.

Put the money elsewhere. Not a worthy upgrade IMHO.

I have to agree with everyone else. I recently took home a 1066 to demo it with the rest of my equipment. It was to replace my RSP 976.

In the end I could not tell any difference between the two. Now that being said I did not have the 7.1 channels in operation. Based purely on 5.1 decoding they sounded identical to me. In fact I did notice degradation in my S video signal when running through the 1066. I did not notice that when running through my 976.

Don't get me wrong I am sure that if you listen to the 1066 in 7.1 you would find an improvement over your 976 given the enhanced soundfield. If thinking about ugrading your pre/pro I would make the jump to the 1068 before buying the 1066.

        Just my two cents,

        Mark

I had a RSP-985 (big brother to the 976) and felt a downgrade when I went to the 1066. That said I love 7.1 and PLII enough that it was worth it. I've got the best of both worlds (and more) now with my 1098..

If you're looking for better sound without the extras try and find a used 985..

            Advice on RSP 976
            by luszer
Has there been comparisons on the 976 vs RSP 1066. Has anyone traded up to the 1066 from the 976, if so, what were the improvements over the older model. Have there been any issue with the 976 that I should be aware about, also, likes and dislikes.
One additional question: Is anyone using an...

            RSP 976 or 1066?
            by june
            Hello All,

I'm looking to upgrade my bedroom system. I want to hook up a Rotel processor to my Yamaha RXV-3000's 6-channel input. What's the difference in sound between the 976 & 1066? It will be running B&W P6 speakers. It's about a $400 difference in the price (pre-owned)....

Other than cosmetics, are there any significant performance differences between the above? I know the 1066 is the newer/silver model. Thanks much!
