    Integrated vs. separates

This is a very basic topic, but Why is it tha people always think about separates being better than integrated receivers?.
Does it holds true for every combination of equipment? for every kind of music? every kind of application?

    Better? Depends on preference.

If you don't have enough room for seperates, integrated is better.

If you don't have the lettuce to spend on seperates, integrated is better.

If you want a cleaner sound, seperates are better.

Of course this is only my opinion, it just happens to be correct :T

I think from a basic standpoint you have to make compromises in a intergrated system that you don't have to in a separated system.

The compromises occur because "the enemy" of eletronic nirvana is heat, interference and dirty power.

Separate boxes allow you to dissipate heat more effectively, isolate eletricaly signals to reduce interference and build separate power supplies to the feedback of the individual components on to the power supply is isolated from each other.

Side benefits is you can upgrade things separately and it makes your setup look real mean will all that heavy metal showing

If you're going to be using the exact same budget however, then it gets into a greyer area.

i.e. if you have $2000 to spend on a receiver, or go with $1000 amp + $1000 processor... The 2k receiver might drive 7 channels, but the 1k amp may only drive 2 channels... But with seperates, you can buy over time... Get a slighly cheaper receiver, to act as a pre, and combine with a really good 2 or 5 channel amp. Then add a good processor down the road, etc.

          603s with simaudio integrated?
          by wgriel
          Hello,

I'm new to the forum, and I own a pair of DM600 S3's (for my kitchen) and a pair of 603 S3's in my living room.

I've been thinking of upgrading the 603s and have been considering the 704s. However, after lurking and reading some of the posts on this forum, I have...

          The Separates Path
          by alkalay
          Hi all,

I’ve been walking through the separates path for quite some time (longer in my mind than in real world) and I'm on my way to complete my first a/v separates system.
If like me you’re building your separates system or have already done so, and you’re coming from a...

          Separates or single AVR?
          by macdon
I recently finished a very simple audio setup in our bedroom composed of B&W 602s3 speakers, Rotel Ra-01 integrated amp and Rotel RCD-1072 cd player. I must say that I'm enjoying it

I'm now slowly embarking on a HT install for our TV room. Got most of the equipment except for...

          Rotel separates vs Denon integrated
          by feverin
Hi I have RB-1070 & RC-1082 separates for quite some time now. The upgrade bug has bitten and I'm interested in Denon PMA-A100 integrated amp. The PMA uses mosfets and weighs 60 pounds. Will this be a good upgrade and has anyone switched from Rotel to Denon before? My speakers are Energy RC-70 and...

          Integrated amp for 802Ds
          by VictorHRS
          Hi there,

If you were to choose an integrated amplifier for the 802D, which one would it be and why?

I own an Accuphase E-308, which is amazing, but I feel it doesn´t do justice to the 802Ds, it´s not quite up there. But the good separates that I feel would be on par...
