I enjoy this explanation, which is difficult to put into words so regualr folks understand. A PWM class D amplifier is not processing ones and zeros, it's in a kind of "always on always off" state, so it's certainly binary, but not digital...

The 'digital' output uses standard logic levels, where 0V is a logic '0' and 5V is a logic '1'. Because of this digitisation of the signal, PWM amps are sometimes erroneously referred to as digital amps. In fact, the entire process is far more analogue than digital.- Bottom
