    Question about 5.1

Perhaps a stupid question ops: , but i'm planning to install my dvd-player on my standard stereo amp.
Nowadays I often see music dvd's which are only in 5.1.
If i want to play it on my stereo (2.0) will i miss details or intstruments??

I have no idea how 5.1 works but my guess is that in surround systems the signal to the front speakers the standard 2.0 is and the other channels just being used for the surround effects.

If thats so i dont have to worry for missing details.

If the DVD is in DD 5.1 the player will downmix it to 2.0 on the analog stereo outputs.

Also, many DVDs offer DD 2.0 or PCM tracks as well. If you're talking SACD or DVD-A, they have stereo hi-res tracks as well.
