DAC better in 1040 or 1056 or neither?

I'm somewhat new so please bear with. I've been reading about DACs and the concept of separates, but would like to know a few things about my setup.

    rdv-1040
    rsx-1056
    velodyne spl-1200
    b&w cm2s bookshelf

I currently have the 1040 outputting digital to my 1056, but think that I should use the DAC on my 1040 instead. I haven't been able to find the DAC specs on either device and would like to know which is truly better. I also want to make sure that my sub is being optimized in either DAC scenario. Since I don't have a center or floorstands, I don't really have a great surround sound setup, but do have room to grow. Since the cm2s are small, I have my lows redirected to my sub. Any DAC info for my setup would be great!

DAC differences are subtle, esp when you are comparing less than state of the art gear. it does not matter what anyone else thinks which is better, what do you think? Its easy enough to try each at matched volume levels and decide for yourself.
