Developing Issue: RB981 "whinning" on power-down

    Hey all-

Just a quick question before I send the unit off for service, wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

On power-down, the left channel of my RB981 produces a mid to high pitched "whine" or "squeal" about 5 seconds after the protection light is off.

It might be a bad condensator, they tend to leak afters several years. But Rotel uses very high quality components and the 981 is not old enough.

Or even the relay that is broken. The relay is supposed to switch off the speakers when you power off. Relays can become sticky after a while.

I figured it was probably a cap about to kick off, didn't think of a relay.

        Anyone else?

The rotel multi-channel amps all do this "whine" from the right surround channel during shutdown. It was discussed on this forum months ago. My 1075 did it new, and it hasn't gotten any worse 6m later. It only becomes evident with some speaker combos.

Did you change anything recently to "enhance" this whine?

In the end it must be easy to fix, if the person has the right knowledge. It will not be too expensive...
