    RSP-1098 Question.......yes, another one

In what seems like my never ending quest to select some new audio gear, I've been pouring over the owners manual which I downloaded from the Rotel website to discover it's inner workings. My wife calls me crazy as I highlight, underline, asterisk etc. what I believe to be certain desirable aspects or operational subtelties of this processor. Since this piece of gear would be my most advanced piece of audio gear to date, it has raised a few questions regarding bass managment and speaker configuration.

    My main questions are below:

    1) For analog bypass operation it is pure 2 channel with no digital processing and two speakers only with NO sub woofer. Is this correct? I think it is but need a second opinion.

    2) For 2 channel operation with the speakers set to LARGE, full range goes to those speakers and no signal goes to the sub IF it is set to NONE or YES. The sub ONLY gets a signal in this case if it is set to MAX. Is this correct?

    3) Regarding question 2 above, is there a way to 'toggle' the sub on and off in the two channel mode by simply hitting a button or do I need to get into the menu and go from YES to MAX and back?

    4) Who do you think will respond first, JimmyP or Andrew?

    That is all,

    1) Yes. If you select the "bypass" stereo mode, it will bypass digital processing and go straight to volume control. If you turn off bypass mode there will be tone control done also and some digitalization will be done.

    2) Digital stereo input: the front speaker setting is used, i.e., when they are large no output is done to the sub. When they are small, there is output to the subwoofer. Dunno what happens when using max, but I never used that since I didnt want bass doubling anyway.

    3) use the bypass mode if its an analogue input.

    4) neither

In 2-channel mode if you set your fronts to "large" and you want LFE ouput, you set the sub to "max". It is a very impressive sound.

Sorry for coming in 3rd but in my defense I'm not feeling good at all

Anyway yes the guys above did a nice job of answering your questions. I like the bypass function as it allows me to easily engage or disengage the sub with a press of the stereo button (its a toggle feature)

Off topic as I'm being a deck: If you really want to tick your wife off, Trash, tell her you did the same analysis-type thing when you were thinking about marrying her.

          Hope you get better, Andrew.

It wouldn't surprise her. Thanks for info, and Andrew, don't let barfing get in the way again.

Bypass mode on 1068, bass overkill
              by bleeding ears
Hi guys, has anyone else found that bypass mode on the 1068 processor creates too much bass.

Ok, perhaps its not actually creating the bass but it does allow too much bass thru, a lot of the time.

I find the sound with some cd's to be substantially better in bypass compared...

1068 Bypass mode - speaker level to subwoofer
              by howburger
I've got the 1068/1095 combo and I'm building a stereo pair of Dipole subs with 8 Atlas 15's. I've just recently discovered the sound quality of the bypass mode listening to CD's. Problem is, I really would like to utilize my new Dipole Subs while using bypass mode. Would it work if I used a Y splitter...

              Hi Everyone,
I was playing a new DVD and found that in DTS it was Only playing my first sub I have, and was only allowing vocals and not that low frequency on my second Sub ??My Rotel 1060 plays all of my DTS DVDs and CDs correctly with both subs parallel in tone so I presumed the recording...

              RSX1055 "analog bypass mode"
              by OakIris
Yet another newbie question from someone who has had the RSX1055 long enough that they should know the answer, but... I've done a search here, checked out the FAQs on the Rotel site and read the manual, but can't seem to find anything about HOW you place the receiver in analog bypass mode. Is it as...

              Bypass mode for unbalanced inputs?
              by netarc
Just got my C2 a couple of days ago - have a question re: the bypass mode ...

If I understand the manual correctly, the C2's bypass mode *only* works for a balanced analog input??

What, then, if one is running an external DAC (or a good CD player) that only has unbalanced...
