Digital Connection: Toslink or COAX for 1098

    Hey Guys,

Would like to get you're opinions on which would be the best direction for connecting my Denon 2900 DVD player to my RSP-1098. I want the best possible (no doubt thats what everyone wants) and I cant decide wheather to go toslink or COAX for my digital connection.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Either will work fine IMO. Generally you can get an equal quality or better from coax for less money....

      Tony,

I have the 1098 and have extensively tried both. I found (to my great surprise) that the difference came down to cable quality (I know, I know hard to believe with digital and it floored me at the time)... I generally prefer the sound of the coax connection though with a really good cable (somehow it has better bass with most cables) - though I have heard an amazing pure glass toslink...

Try this thread for some ideas...

      Geoff

        Digital Coax for me....

I have my RDV-1050 connected to my RSP-1098 with a digital coax over the optical. "to me" it had a more of natural full sound over the digital.
I'm using Monster Cable M Series M1000. Please no Flames on the MC :f>

I seldom hear appreciable differences in cables.

And I am certainly not a shill for CatCables (sponsor of this forum).

            But...

Lex's (CatCable) Silver Digital Coax has been a surprising performer in my low/mid-fi system... not a night and day difference, but discernibly more detail and depth than others I've tried (Monster, StraightWire)... I really am a cable skeptic, but the Silver has been a genuine upgrade here.

The Silver is not shown on the website... email or PM Lex (Doug) for info.

I agree with gd on this one. I installed my Silver Digi Cat and removed my Ixos opticle cable, and the system just felt a lot warmer in the mid range.

Edited to change it from Silver Cat to Silver Digi Cat.
