Hold the mute button on the 1098, it will bring up the current version you are using and very nice set up you have...

Press the stereo button and it will toggle between bypass and stereo modes for those inputs that have analog inputs.

well thanks a lot.I have a coax that is used so I guess it will not help. Also in the Inout when I change the default mode from PCM 2 to dolby or any other it still shows PCM 2 later when I i just check the on screen display by pressing the menu.
Well can any one suggest on this.

Check the DVD Player that could be set to just output 2 channel rather than Dolby Digital. No I don't know where to look but most DVD players have an option like this.

Also ensure you've setup the input correctly so that Video1 or whatever input it is on the 1098 has the correct digital source selected and that it's also has the correct default mode selected not stereo

If you want to use the analogue bypass mode then you will need to put a set of L&R stereo inputs into say the CD input on the Processor from your DVD Player as well as the coaxial cable.

Then when you select CD on your 1098 you are using an analogue connection. But to be honest i would have though the 1098 would have better inbuilt DACs then the DVD player if this is true then use it digitally and let the Rotel Processor do the decoding through it's better DACs.

Analogue bypass is great but it's pointless if the source is not as good as the DACs within the 1098 then you might as well use the 1098 to decode rather than the CD/DVD player.

Shootout : Parasound C2 vs Rotel 1098 (long)
              by DrBoom
Well, it's been almost 2 months now that I've lived with both my Rotel RSP1098 and my Parasound C2 and the time for deciding which I'm going to keep is almost at hand.(not that I HAVE to decide now for some reason, but I'd hate to end up with 2 processors permanently)
I actually own both of them,...

Problem with 1098 connected to Plasma
              by dwhite
I'm having a video problem with the RSP1098. I'm trying to figure out whether there is something wrong with the 1098, some incompatibility with my plasma monitor, or some bad mojo in my house. All ideas or experience with similar set-ups would be greatly appreciated.

              The problem shows...

              Changing 1098's Inputs.
              by Nolan B
My dealer mentioned in theory becuase of the way the inputs are linear on the 1098 you can remove/change some ofthe boards.

              Has anyone does this?

Would it be possible to, say, remove the S Vid board and replace it with an additional set of Multi Inputs?

              Bypass mode for unbalanced inputs?
              by netarc
Just got my C2 a couple of days ago - have a question re: the bypass mode ...

If I understand the manual correctly, the C2's bypass mode *only* works for a balanced analog input??

What, then, if one is running an external DAC (or a good CD player) that only has unbalanced...

              1098 / PS3 - what am I getting wrong??
              by dmcgowan
Simple but frustrating problem. I am running PS3 --> Integra DTR6.8 --> 1098 Multichannel inputs to try and get to the HD sound formats.

My problem is incredibly low volume. I need to have the Integra at close to maximum volume and the 1098 at >80 on the volume scale to get...
