Question about static/hum..not the usual one

I've got some static coming out of my speakers if I turn the volume on my RSP-1068 past 60 and becomes very noticeable around 70. I don't know what the different sound would be for EMI or RFI so I really can't describe it other than it sounds like static.

Here's the weird part if I change the input to MULTI and only this input changes it the sound goes away and just becomes your typical sound of "I've got my gear cranked and this is expected" Hopefully that makes sense.

I'm not saying it's the Rotel unit but what could the MULTI input not be doing or doing to not have the same affects of all the other inputs? I think it bypasses electronics but I'm not sure

    any help is appreciated
    thanks

The multi is an analog connection. sometimes if you are using a digital connection and also processing the video through the 1068 you will get a hum.

Are you using the same interconnects when comparing the multi channel to the other analogue inputs?
Have you tried using the 2 channel "bypass" mode with the other analogue inputs? Does it still happen?

I had the same issue with my 1098, hiss above volume level 66 or something like that, but not with the multi inputs or with the analog inputs in Bypass mode.
So that lead me to believe that the problem lies in either the DACs or the DSP itself.
Never been able to fix that, and imo there is just too much background noise there for such an expensive processor (in the case of the 1098 especially).
It has always bothered me, since the day I discovered it, and it eventually made me sell mine.
I now have a TAG McLaren AV32 BP192 7.1, and no more hiss at last.

DrBoom that is one very nice TAG McLaren piece you have there. Really, no more hiss at all? That must be really nice...

I e-mailed Rotel today and explained the problem hopefully I will get a response shortly. Either way I'll be going to the dealer on Saturday to explain and show the problem.

DrBoom- You hit the nail on the head that's exactly what I'm getting.

I got a reply two days laters from a distributor in the US. He stated that he has a 1068 and only gets any type of noise above 90 and flat out suggested I take it to the dealer.

I took the unit to my dealer saturday morning where we hooked it up and I showed them the problem. As I thought his first comment was something is wrong in the digital section. In analog bypass wether it be 2 channel or Multi the noise/hiss/static was not there. So unfortunately the unit does have to go back and will take 2 weeks..I'm not holding my breath on that one.

I asked my dealer if they had any other problems and he didn't give me a stupid answer like "no never rotel is the best" He said they haven't returned any 1068s yet but they did have a few problems with the receivers. I know these guys dropped Cambridge Audio because of the problems.

In any case I'm still very happy with Rotel and with my dealer. And if anyone wants to know a good place in around Toronto jsut pm me.

I got back from vacation yesterday so it's been two weeks that the unit was sent in. I called my dealer today just to touch base not expecting much but surprise..surprise...Rotel authorized a new unit be given!

Despite having problems everything got handled really well and I couldn't be happier

Given the number of piecemeal threads floating around regarding the SSP-800 I felt it would be more useful to consolidate the information we currently know about the upcoming processor into a dedicated thread. I believe it would facilitate better record keeping as more information...

Out of thre blue I've got static and scratching sounds from the RR channel.

Best part is that you don't even need to be in a mutli-channel mode. That's right - it even spits static when 2-channel bypass is selected.

In multi-channel the RR output is reduced and the noise...

I'm having a brain freeze... do the analog multi-channel inputs on the 1068 go through the bass management/crossover/delay processing? Under "MULTI Inputs" the manual says...

"These inputs bypass all digital processing in the RSP-1068 and are routed directly to the Volume...

When playing a DVD-audio disc I select the multi-input , but the display on my 1066 still only shows left, right...
