    1068 Volume Issue

I've had my 1068 for a few months now and all of a sudden my volume is going crazy. It keeps jumping up really high even after I take my finger off the volume button and the same going down. I know the update made the volume go a lot faster, and I am used to that change.... that's not whats happening. At one point, while watching TV it ran all the way up to MAX and I wasn't even using the remote. The remote wouldnt turn the volume down so I ran over to the processor and used the manual volume knob... well when i turned it, the volume went down and as soon as I let go, it ran back up to MAX again. I had to turn the unit off... is this a bug? Has my 1068 gone bad? I use a Harmony 680 remote control and have been using it for a long time with no issues. When the volume jumps, the green signal LED does not light on the remote. Please help!

I had this problem with my 1066 - it seemed to be plasma IR - especially when a bright / white screen was displayed ... maybe happened 4-5 times altogether over a year. 1068 however never had this problem... Are you using an IR repeater system of some sort?

How's the humidity in your room. I had my HK do the exact same thing last winter when the humidifier broke down. The house was dry, and like you described, the volume started climbing right to max and back down. As soon as the humidifier was repaired the volume control was back to manual or remote, no drifting.

I do not have a plasma and I do not use any IR repeaters. I have not changed anything in my setup or room (lights etc.) since I got the 1068 and it just happened yesterday for the first time. I live in Ohio so its definately not dry.

I did go on vacation last week and had the unit turned completely off. It was being used on a daily basis for months until I left, may be its mad at me for neglect?

Jokes aside, I really don't know what's going on, but its very frustrating. I had to go into my settings last night and set a max volume to avoid damaging my speakers when it randomly decides to run up on me. Anyone have any other ideas?

I had this exact issue as well

I think it's related to how the Harmony is programmed.
When I would use my Harmony on my Proceed AVP it made the volume simply go! and it didn't stop until it hit the wall.

So I went in to the harmony via IR, not USB and tapped the IR when programming the volume control. It worked better.

I could never get it to control the volume exactly how I wanted it to with the Proceed, it worked great with my Rotel (strangely enough) but I did experiment with the IR to get it just right.

i'll explain further if your interested

I've had the Harmony since before I had the 1068 and have used them together for several months. The Harmony always worked fine... I think that's kinda strange that I would all of a sudden have problems. I did just make some changes with the Harmony and updated it recently... may be I'll try syncing the remote again in case there was some kind of error. However, I did have one instance when the volume jumped all the way up to max when the remote was just sitting on my coffee table and had not been used for quite some time. Plus the time when I tried turning the volume down with the manual knob and it still kept jumping up on me. That's why I don't think its the Harmony. UGH! I don't want to have to try to get another 1068... this is already my 2nd one!

Last night the volume decreased to 0 by itself. I adjusted it back up with the remote and then opened the closet door to see what would happen next (this often happens a couple of times in a row). I unplugged the IR blaster and covered the IR receiver on the 1068 with my finger (pressed hard against it). The volume went up by itself to 85 (the max that I have set). I tunded the volume knob down to ~60 and when I let it go, the volume returned to 85 by itself. It did this over and over until I turned the volume down with the remote. Now I am sure that it is the 1068 and plan on contacting my dealer for an exchange. I hope I don't have problems returning it because this is an intermitent problem.

I found that this person had the same problem I'm having. His 1068 was also several months old before he had the volume issue appear. It looks like I may have to contact my dealer again...

                  Here's a colossal pain of a suggestion:
Reset the factory defaults on the Rotel and then unplug it for a few minutes.

When you plug it back in (after you make yourself a sandwich) try using it with the supplied remote control for a few days (weeks) and see if you can get it too fail or repeat the volume running thing...

Just a suggestion, however inconvenient it may be.

Well on my 1066 I always thought it was the IR repeater / Plasma IR ... but I guess I never proved it as it happened for a while and then it never happended again - and has never happened on 1068 (touch wood) ... very wierd one.

I would try a software re-install if the factory default reset does not work. Also are you on latest software & EPROM code?

                    Rgds Steve.

I haven't had time to mess with it at all over the weekend. I am running 1.2.1 b/c I haven't had time to update to 1.2.2. I will be forced to do a factor reset and all that when I do that software upgrade so hopefully the problem will go away or fix itself. Things have been crazy so I hope to do that this week. Thanks for all your input and I'll post my results after the updates.

So I updated my software to 1.2.2 last night. At first I didn't think it resolved the problem, but I think I figured it out. When I first got my 1068, the volume controls when using the Harmony remote worked best when I set the Inter-key Delay at 0 ms. I think once the update occured that made the volume move much faster, 0 ms was too fast and was causing the volume to go nuts. I forgot I had done this since its been a while and went into my Harmony settings last night and set the Inter-key delay back to 100 ms which it claims is the default. For now, I think this has solved the problem, but I didn't have much time to play around with it once I made the changes. Anyone out there with a remote that can be setup like so, what is your inter-key delay set to for Rotel equipment?

Just curious if anyone else has experienced the same glitch as I have with the RT-1080 tuner + 1068 remote (RR-1050). I don't suspect there is any fix for it, but doesn't hurt to ask.

I blank out the display of the RT-1080 tuner by holding down the "display" button on the tuner...

Hi all. I will be receiving my first Rotel stuff soon. I will be having the 1062 integrated amp and the 1068, 1075 combo in the same room possibly. Will using the 1068 remote also affect the 1062? Like on and off and the volume.I'm really hoping it won't.

Picked up a 1068 over the weekend to replace my old Yamaha C80 pre-amp and Sony SDP-E800 processor (DD only).

I've set up the 1068 and ran through the settings fairly quickly, but at the same time I think fairly completely. My initial impressions are that the surround setup is pretty...

Had a weird thing happen last night with my RC1070 preamp. Last night, and for the 2nd time, my remote not able to control the volume of my preamp.
