Sound loss issue with 1068 and HD Receiver

    Hi and thanks for reading...

I use the optical digital-outs of a HD receiver and a HD Tivo and have this same problem with both:

Often, when a HD program shows a commercial (not in HD), the sound will stop and won't start again until the show resumes. During the commercial, if I switch to another channel and back again, the commercial sound comes on. I can also switch to a different decoding mode and back again and the sound works.

I think that probably the digital sound format is changing and not being "locked" or something. It does seem to add the blue "pro-logic" indicator when this happens.

While it might seem like a good thing to have silent commercials, I still would like to solve this problem.

Fairly minor thing with a wonderful processor.

    Thanks for any advice...

    Regnad,

I am 99% confident that this will be a problem with your HD reciever. Basically the adverts won't be in DD 5.1 so the HD receiver will stop sending the DD flag and signal (hence the Pro Logic light coming on). Try some set-up options for this. For example many HD recievers let you control the digital and analog output formats to match those of your reciever. You may have turned off MPEG or whatever the TV stations are doing the adverts in. Also do you have the analog connected as well -some HD recievers will default back to an analog signal in some circumstances (like adverts) if there is no muli-channel digitla signal...

I've never had this problem with my Sony SAT-HD200 and my 1068. I set Pro-Logic II as my default mode for the digital input from the HD receiver. If it see the "DD" flag, it goes into DD mode. Maybe that's why I don't have this problem.

        Thanks for the info...

Geoff, I will look into the digital audio output formats for the receiver and Tivo, although it is weird that it does not always happen. I seem to recall that there was a good reason that I did not hook up the analog connections.

CWD, I have the default set to 2-channel as that is usually my preference, particularly with Music Choice.

        Happy Holidays!

          Had another look...

The "pro-logic" indicator I am referring to is the small one at the upper left of the display. The main large indicator always reads:

          DOLBY D+PLIIx M 48K

even when the little pro-logic indicator lights and the sound stops. This would seem to show that the DD flag is still being sent by the HD receiver to the 1068. Also remember, all I have to do is switch away and back and I have sound again.

          Thanks again for any help...

I have my HD box run to my 1068 with an optical cable also.My issue has always been this...when channel surfing the sound will only come from the front two speakers. The readout will still say pro-logic 11x.If I remain on one channel and reset all is fine.
Since this started I also put in some analog cables which the sound never drops out.I use those for surfing and when I find a movie to watch I switch back to the optical...using v1 and v5 for inputs.
I don't know if this is related to your problem but it seems there are issues with optical cables.
