    RSX-1055/1056 "Redirect" Fxn

    Hello all,
I am new to the forum, but not Rotel. I have owned four pieces over the years. I am looking for a new HT receiver and will probably be getting a Rotel receiver.

I have a question regarding the redirect fxn. I would like to be able to use the front channel amps to power speakers in Zone 2. It is pretty clear to me, that the 1056 will do this. But it appears the 1055 will only redirect to the rear center channel speakers.

Is this true??? Has there been a firmware update that allows this fxn???

    Thanks for any input,
    Matt

I believe the rsx1056 will only direct the fronts to the rear center for 6.1 or 7.1.For zone2 you need to add an amp.I did this to power outdoor speakers simultaneously.I may be wrong but thats how i understand it.

Right the 1056 can redirect to 7.1 or Zone two where as the 1055 can only do 7.1. I'm not sure if firmeware could address this or not but I'd assume not.

Great question Matt. I have a new 1056 and knew I could add an amp for 7.1. But was not sure I could add an amp and redirect RECEIVER channels to a second zone. I haven't read the manual on that aspect of the receiver, still trying to get the 5.1 "right".

Would a separate amp say a 1080 function "as one" with the receiver? Turn on and off with the receiver? Set listening level with the receiver? I'm guessing the answers are: Yes, Yes (12v trigger), of course it can dummy. I've had a few nice receivers but never separates.

Please excuse the tangent. If there is anything you want me to check out on the 1056 let me know.

I am also looking into getting a 1055, and sorry I do not really understand what the 1056 has that permit to power Zone2, can someone explain this in more details?

Now I think that you could still power some speakers from the main, using cables connected to the same post with on/off switch. A small problem is that you will have the same sound in the main Zone also...there must be a way to setup the 1055 to power a second zone...?

The 1055 cannot redirect its internal amps to power the second zone. You need an external amp for the second zone.

The 1056 can allow you to use an external amp to power the FL and FR channels and then to redirect the internal FL & FR amps to power the second zone. This feature is not in the 1055.

You could use an expensive speaker switcher. This would allow you to connect two pairs of speakers to the same binding posts. However, there are several disadvantages to doing this including (1) degredation of sound quality, (2) it is expensive because you need a switcher capable of handling the wattage outputted by the receiver, and (3) it would be dangerous (to your receiver and speakers) to play both sets of speakers at the same time because of the strain on the receiver.

                Hi everyone,
I'm aware that, with the 1056, you can redirect the front channel amplifiers to
power center back speakers or speakers in Zone 2 speakers. But if i'm running a 6.1 setup (ie using the 1056 and an RB1070 to power the front mains ), i assume its impossible to redirect one of...

I know that this issue has been addressed in the forum, and I have done a search to investigate it myself. However, I'm a bit confused and would really appreciate your answers.

I am probably going to get the 1056 and add and amp like the 1070 to power my main speakers for good 2 channel...

I have upgraded the software and firmware version to the latest one.
My question is, if I setup the redirect option to Front->CB, this does not get saved. If I go back to the setting it is back to NO, Redirect=NO
I have also setup the CB spearkers.

                by abock
I spent the afternoon listening to various receivers. At the end I am down to either the 1056 or the arcam 300. Understanding the approx 800 difference I am really leaning toward the rotel. I have search the forum and read the manual online and am still a little confused about Zone 2. I really want...

I have an older RSX1055 with original version of firmware. Recently hooked up two CB speakers and utilized the redirect feature in the on display menu. Initially the RSX1055 would reset the redirect back to front speakers. I called Rotel and was told to update the firmware. Then I called...
