    rotel & definitive technology

Was wondering how many of you are using Def.Tech. speakers with your rotels. How do they match up with your system as compared maybe to B&W.Since so many of you use the B&W's.

I have the following: bp7001sc, clr3000, bpvx/p with a Rotel rsp-1068 and rmb-1095. I can tell you that the two are a perfect match. I couldn't ask for anything more. I auditioned B&W about 2 years ago and wasn't impressed. I've always loved the sound of Def Tech.

I've never auditioned B&W, but I have Def Tech 7001SC's up front, a CLR 3000 in the center and ProTower 400's in the rear. I think they sound fantastic, and was especially impressed when I moved my ProTower 400's to the rear and replaced the ProMonitor 200's. The rear channels really came alive, especially with the powered subs.

I think most people will tell you B&W's are more "musical" than the DefTechs, but my main concern is home theatre, and the DefTechs handle that beautifully. They are far from shabby when listening to music, too.

Everything is relative, and so is speaker choice. IMO def tech sounds equally as good for music as they do for ht. They give a big sound stage no matter what you are listening to. Anyway, don't hesitate on getting the Rotel gear. You won't regret it.

Sorry, rick c. I just viewed your profile and noticed you have both Rotel and def tech already. Do you not like the sound, or are you looking for better sound? If so, bump up the ladder in the def tech line. The powered towers are awesome.

            Def. Tech. Rocks!!!

Hi, as you may check with my signature, I have all DefTech speakers and I love them. I auditioned several speakers with Rotel gear, and narrowed down to DT and BW. Both sound great...BW more to the bright side and DT more to the dynamic side. It would be a very difficult decision but my advice is, if you are more audiophile go with BW, if you are more videophile, like myself, then go with DT.

Anyways, it will depend of the eye of the beholder of course.
            Regards,
            Luis

I run my Def Tech rears (BPX) and center backs (BP2X) through the RMB-1095, with no regrets, sounds very nice in 7.1 with DoProIIx.

My Def Tech's are the only thing in my system that hasn't changed.(had them for 6yrs+).They match up nice with the Rotel gear. But if I could swing it I would be tempted to get the B&W N804,HTM1,SCM-1(2 pairs),ASW850 what a sweet package. :T

Well since you guys have dt's i would like your advice.I was planning on getting either the bp30's(preferably)or bp10's.I heard they are placement sensitive. If i got these speakers they will replace my promonitor 100's(mains).I would need to place these speakers against a wall unit. They would be approx 1ft from the front wall and over 6ft from the side walls. I also have the c2 center that i wont be able to replace right now because of budget. My sub is the 200tl.Will i have placement issues with these speakers because of being next to the wall unit.I have seen photos of systems where they have the dt's against a wall unit or rack, but don't know the effects.Last but not least will the rotel rsx1056 be enough w/o an amp on either the bp30 or bp10.Thanks,sorry for the long questions.

Your placement should not present any problem. Here's a pic of my set up with BP10B's and it sounds fantastic. :T

                        G'day,

I saw some Def Tech bipolar floorstanders with built-in subwoofer at a hi-fi store the other day. Sounded sweet on first listen, but I get the feeling these are more suited for Home Theatre use than for stereo listening.

Is that a fair generalization? How do Rotel/Def Tech users rate the pure 2-channel handling of the Def Techs, especially in comparison to other speakers?

Hopefully I'll get a chance in a few weeks to go back to the store for an extended listening session, but opinions would be welcome in the mean time.

                        --Geoff

I had a Rotel/Def tech marriage and at one time, I thought they performed marvelously together for both 2-channel and HT. When I was auditioning new pre/pros and heard front-firing speakers doing 2-channel better than Def Tech (while doing an a/b), I began to understand what others have suggested.

Front-firers, IMO, have more separation, clarity, and detail than the Def Techs I've had for 2-channel. Maybe it's because of the bipolar design or the built-in powered sub, I don't know.

Try to do an a/b in the store to hear for yourself what others have suggested and I have heard.

Hello my fellow Rotelmaniacs, I am Victor from Arlington Texas and I am looking for help with some bass management questions:

I recently upgraded my DVD player for a Denon DVD 2200 that does bass management, so...

Definitive Technologies 7.1 In-Wall Speaker recommendations needed
                            by robdam1001
so far for my HT, I've settled upon Yamaha RX-V1800 and Sammy HL61A750. I know I want Definitive Technologies for Speakers, (my rec Room HT has Def Tech Speakers and I LOVE THEM), but I'm not sure what I need since I'm new to 7.1 configurations. Do I need bipole/dipole? Do they go on the sides? Back?...

I'm thinking of using it (a smaller 5k version) as my Avatar. Just another alternative if anyone interested.

I want to up grade my 5.1 system to a 7.1 and am having a hard time with the cost of B&W DS8S. My past auditioning has led me away from B&W for my center channel speaker and I went with a Definitive Tech because of the much fuller sound. I'm thinking on the same lines for the dipole or bipolar...
