Nice. That is a Focal speaker I assume. Does it match well with the MF gear.

And how does that Audio Research kit fits in the set up? Or is it 2 different set up as there is a Sony CDP as well there?
HiFi: ClearAudio Concept TT, Musical Fidelity M6i amp and M6 DAC, M1s (PWR,CDT, CLiC, ViNL), SONY MDSJA20ES MDP, ProAc D18 with full Siltech cabling.

HeadFi: Beyerdynamic T1 and Oppo HA-1

HT: Samsung 65" Curve LED, OPPO BDP 95-EU, Yamaha RX-V2067, PMC twenty 23 front and Centre, Wharfedale WH2, SVS Sub, with full QED cabling

hi elhefe, yes my focals are the Utopia Diva mains. and focal is an absolute beautiful match for musical fidelity. the combination is a spritely sound with excellent top end detail without being fatiguing, a midrange with lovely warmth and bass that is tight clean, goes low and with quite a bit of punch.

the audio research is a tube phono pre amp for my rega turntable. the sony is my sacd front end. all brought together via the musical fidelity a5 cr pre amp. which is really centre piece and the hub of the system

Nice shots Delray. The A5cr sure did transform my system. The phono amp is another thing.

                          lovely shots delray !

sure shows off the power house the a5 pwr is ! 8 output stages per channel ! big beefy torroidal power supply. And the twin frame transformers used for choke regulation for both the pre am power and their dual mono designs

beautifully made pieces both the pre and power. will go down as classics am pretty sure

                            Hi all,

It's a while since I posted so here's an update on my system... most importantly I am now the very pleased owner of a some Spendor A5 speakers!

The photo also shows my A3.2cr power amp along with the X-CANv3 & X-DACv3. Also new, but out of frame, is a Squeezebox Touch; excellent piece of kit and now my main (and almost only) source.

You may notice an old 'A series component? No, it's not an A1... it WAS a B200, which died, so I'm using the case to house my DIY passive 'pre' which I love to bits.

Latest news is I've bought a V-DAC II and it's a beauty. Got it because, with a third party ap, the Squeezebox Touch will output at 24/192, which is nice. So I fancied a DAC which would accept data at that spec. Why I need 3 DACS heaven only knows... Azur DacMagic, X-DACv3.. and now the V-DAC II. Ah well, a guy's got to have a hobby.

I still have my X-PREv3 but it's upstairs with my home 'office' vinyl dubbing kit... it's phono stage feeds into my M-Audio 24/96 sound card and I get great copies. But I'm running out of patience and I guess I'm not going to copy many more LPs or singles onto my PC.

Finally happy to report I've booked the A3.2cr power for an upgrade with John Sampson of jsaudiorepairs.co.uk. The 3.2 is getting on a bit now and if it failed I don't know what I could afford these days that was as good. So I thought let's give it a new lease of life and stick with it. If John's craftwork is as good as 'they say' then I'll have a brilliant bit of kit for just a few hundred pounds; it'll see me through how ever many years I have left of my hi-fi 'career'. If the timetable goes according to plan I'll have my upgraded amp back before the end of the month and I'll let you all know how it's gone.

                            Regards,

                            Derek

wow ! some really choice pieces there Derek ! great to hear the mf a3.2 going strong and a lovely match for the spendor no doubt. past owner of the x-dac and x-can v3 as well and I always liked them. have you considered grabbing a x-psu v3 as takes them up a notch I reckon. Definitely sounds like you got your bases covered though.

ps do post back how it goes with the a3.2 upgrade. perhaps worth a thread on its own ? MF upgrades ? would love to hear from others as well whom have done the samson upgrades or mf fine tuning service for that matter

I don't have an X-PSUv3 but do have a 'Pinkie' PSU made by Mike from rock-grotto.co.uk. It's a single output PSU, wheras the X-PSU will supply 3 items if I remember correctly. However, I choose to use the Pinkie with my X-DACv3 as it is the most important component in my playback chain... more important, that is, than my X-CANv3. I've tried the Pinkie with the X-CAN, of course, and it sounds very nice indeed.

Yesyterday I booked my A3.2cr in for the overhaul & upgrade and should have it back home on 28th March. I spoke to John S yesterday when he described the nature of the changes he makes. It would be easier, I think, if he told me what he DOESN'T change.

I will post my comments on the uprade in a new thread.

                                Derek

You do r100gs - An A5 and an A5.5CDP - the speakers are Tannoy Prestige Turnberry SEs - you can check out the rest of the gear in my profile. Got the Tannoys second hand (from my stepson) and haven't had the urge to upgrade since then - they are great.

I currently have a pair of B&W 803D's which I am looking for a new 2 channel amplifier and cd player.

I am interested in the Musical Fidelity range and narrowed it down to two options:

I dont know about others, but I do at times lust after the m8 series. looks like an amazing pre amp and some stunning mono blocs there. the kind of thing musical fidelity excel over the years with. lovely amps. would be great if they made a source ie disc player or dac in the m8 series. but anyways...

It would appear, that musical fidelity has listened and for those looking for a stereo amp in the M8 series can now consider the M8 500s. no doubt a stereo power amp in similar ilk to the m6 500i but a stereo power amp for those that thought the m8 700 was a bit too much
