Changing this forum was a great idea

    Lex,

Changing the forum to cover more than just Proceed is an excellent idea. I have sold my AVP and now have a Lexicon MC-12B (which I'm extremely happy with). I do still have the Levinson No. 36/37 combination though, so I still feel at home comoderating this group .

    Geoff,
Care to post your thoughts and impressions on the MC-12? Since you went from an AVP to the MC-12B your thoughts would be particularly relevant to me because I may end up doing something similar.

      Geof,

Aside from a few teething problems (no big showstoppers) that are in the first version of the MC-12 software, I'm extremely happy with it. Between the AVP and the MC-12B, I used a DC-1 for a few months that I borrowed from a friend at work, so it's kind of tough for me to post anything resembling a direct comparison between the AVP and the MC-12B.

Some things that I like about the MC-12 over the AVP are:

      1) Balanced outputs for ALL channels, rather than just the front 3.

      2) More video inputs.

      3) More digital inputs.

      4) More configuration options which allow you to adjust the processor to better meet your needs.

      5) A better serial interface (once they finish implementation), which will allow me better control of the preamp with my Crestron equipment.

As to sound quality, the MC-12B is definitely not a dissappointment (far from it - it sounds excellent), but I can't give a valid comparison to the AVP given how long I was without it before my MC-12B arrived. Before the MC-12B arrived, I was seriously thinking about getting a Mark Levinson No. 380S for 2 channel sources, but the sound is so good that I'm not sure the investment would be worthwhile after all, which I think says a lot about how happy I am with it. Meanwhile, news of the AVP II seems to be slow in coming.

Thanks for the input. Yes, we're still waiting for the AVP news. Once the new AVP is released we'll have a lot of questions answered but it remains to be seen how the AVP upgrade will pan out - it won't be released at the same time as the new processor.

I hope Proceed makes me happy with this upgrade but I'm not sure that will happen. I still have 12B envy but just cannot convince myself it's worth the money to me (yet).

        Congrats on your new processor.

          Geoff,
I made the jump to the MC-12B. Just got it last night so it will be awhile before I "get acquainted" with it. So far I like the sound, the features, and the usability. The surround modes seem far more effective than the AVP, which isn't too surprising considering that has been a Lexicon strong suit for many years...
