Any HK PA2400 owners out there?

A while ago I upgraded my amp from an HK PA2400 to a Rotel RB-1080. Although I like the Rotel, the difference in sound isn't that great, and in terms of power, the HK (120 watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms) is easily the equal of the Rotel (200 watts). I'm now wondering if upgraditis got the better of me!

I can't find any reviews of the PA2400. Are there any owners out there?

You may not notice a difference, esp. if you dont have very demanding or revealing speakers, preamp, source, etc. I have PA5800 and the amp is very good and the 230 avr which has a small but good amp. HK is known for their amp sections and their warm sound. I also have the 1080....

I have a pair of B&W CDM9NTs which are pretty revealing speakers. I think that the RB1080 is a bit warmer than the PA2400, and easier to listen to over a longer period. The PA2400 is quite intense, but has bags of power.

The HK website rates the PA2400 at 170 W into 8 or 4 Ohms.

The manual specs something called High Voltage/High Current mode at 270 W into 8 OHms.

I have the original manual which states that the PA2400 is 120 watts into 8 ohms and 170 watts into 4 ohms. If you look at the Web site it says 170 watts into 8 ohms AND 4 ohms. That doesn't make sense. The Web site must be wrong.

Sounds like HK may have rated their amp very conservatively. Might explain the small differance between the HK and the Rotel.

Michael, I agree. I undervalued my PA2400. I'm not taking the Rotel back though!
