DVD 'pop' on layer change via C2

I am experiencing a momentary 'pop' or static burst when a DVD does a layer change in my DVL-91 (DD 5.1 via coax). My old receiver (with otherwise identical source connections) never did this, my C2 seems to do this on certain DVD's consistently. It's as if the DD decoding gets 'confused' during the 1/2 second or so pause on the layer change.

    Has anyone else heard this?

    Mark,

Do you get this pop/static bursts also when changing chapter? Does the display of your C2 say "digital error" ?

The problem is that the source component passes an errornous signal during that time, which can cause problems. Normally the display would just say "digital error" and no other sounds should appear.

I did have some static noise a while ago, don't know exactly why. But it wasn't very loud or alarming. But with dvd's I haven't experienced problems.

    What firmware are you using?

If the problem is persistent and consistent maybe contact parasound about it.

      Mark,

I've played around a dozen DVD's since I got my C2/A52 a couple of weeks ago, and I've never heard a pop during a layer change. I'm using a Panasonic RP-62 DVD player, and running software version 6.52 on the C2.

If you can tell me which DVD's cause the pop (and I have them), I can try it on my system.

        The two most recent were heard on "Bend it like Beckham" & "X-Men 1.5";

I need to look at the display & try to reproduce the error when I get home this weekend (the C2 is not in the theater...). I.ve never heard the pop on a chapter change.

Mark, I'm getting this too now that I've got things hooked up. I've got an old cheap JVC DVD player hooked up right now with cheap cables throughout the system temporarily until I set up the whole system. I AM getting the "digital error" on chapter and menu changes, with the pop. I'm also getting a pop with source change. Software 6.37.

            Hi MarkStega!

I can`t believe it. I thought in all my life I would be the only poor salami who would ever have this problem! Well...loks like I was wrong!

I`ll even tell you a couple of movies that it does it on :How about Matrix 1 in the beginning or Perfect storm at around 50 minutes or so!

Buddy My pop use to freak me out so bad I almost threw the receiver out the window out of frustration.

My only problem is it is not the same receiver as what you have but maybe it is the same problem.

(Your probably saying will this schmoo get to it before I lose my mind!)

Well there were two things wrong.

1: My DVD player was not compatible with my receiver(I know it is hard to believe but its true) I know you tried another DVD player and did the same thing...however there is one that it won`t do it with.

2:The noise suppressor on the receiver was not, in their terms, RIGHT!

They upgraded their noise suppresors and resolved the problem.

I exchanged the receiver 4 times and the DVD player 3 times..it always did the same thing..I was the customer from HELL!

Anyhoo I realize you have some pretty good stuff running there but for me that is what fixed the problem!

Hope this helps!(Oh and you will probably lose your receiver for a while while they try and figure this out)!

TAke care bud..I`m going to bed..I`ve written enough tonight!

Today while breaking in the Halo amps with continuous play of Starship Troopers and Star Wars DVD's, I found a pop in SW Episode I after Qui Gon meets Anakin, and takes a blood sample. Just as he calls up Obi Wan to test the blood for Jedi traits, there is a layer change, and there was a pop.

The Matrix was one of the first advanced DVD's to give early players headaches with layer changes. I'm not surprised if you have several in that, too.

I have now observed the C2 and indeed it displays the 'digital error' at the layer changes that pop. The DVD player is a Pioneer Elite DVL-91 that is a bit slow on layer change (It is old & will be replaced shortly). The interesting part is that my old Pioneer VSX-T29txi receiver never popped on the same discs in the same player. It wasn't until the C2/A51 combo that the popping began. I suspect that the C2 is just "giving up" faster when the digital signal is lost in the transition between layers

                  Mark,

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to this thread; I was out of town on business.

I put in my copy of X-men 1.5, set the sound for DD 5.1, and watched what happened at the layer change (61:51, at the start of chapter 28 ). With my Panasonic RP-62, I saw a very short pause (1/2 second) and the next scene with audio picked up normally. No pops or thumps. I then ran the disk back to before the layer change and watched the display on the C2. At the exact moment of the layer change, the C2 said "digital error", but changed almost immediately to "DD 3/2.1".

I tried running through the layer change 5 or 6 times; each time I saw the digital error message, but I never heard a click or pop. So I'm guessing that the length of the layer change has a lot to do with this problem. I would think that during a "digital error", the C2 would be muted. At least this is what's implied in the user's manual.

I'm a first time Rotel owner, been eyeing the RSX since the introduction of the 1065. First off, I did find a good amount of info on the hiss/pop issue amongst the threads, but didn't find much info on my questions and issues specifically so I decided to start a new thread,...

                    Fellow Tag fans,

Looooooong time since I've roamed these parts. Ran the latest AV32R software the other night and I am pleased to FINALLY see the THX issue (where it kept switching off at a layer change, chapter skip of fast forward) fixed, but a new problem has come to play and need...

I've been reading this forum for a few weeks now since I picked up a 1068 and the amount of info is great. I've been overwhelmed with the quality of sound and have had no problems with the unit minus one.

Once the unit and amp are powered on and for instance it turns on in Video1, I then...

I've got some static coming out of my speakers if I turn the volume on my RSP-1068 past 60 and becomes very noticeable around 70. I don't know what the different sound would be for EMI or RFI so I really can't describe it other than it sounds like static.

Here's the weird part if I change...
