Can a 7100 pass a coax signal through to either the tape-out or the zone2 output analog? I am trying to use it as a DAC for an external stereo pre-amp. My only sources do not have a better DAC in them.

Hey, Darren, I don't think I've seen you here before, so welcome to the Guide and Club Parasound! :banana:
Without digging out the 7100 manual, I'm 99% sure based on my C1 performance that the 7100 does NOT pass a digital signal input to ANY of the analog outputs. So no, can't be used as a DAC in that sense.
By the way, I'm in Puyallup.

Thanks for the reply. The manual (i have red 10 times now :-) is vague on the subject. I wanted to find out before I go out and get the extra cables I need to try it. You are most likely correct.
I have posted only once before. You helped me :-). I have 11 messages though. Since I have had no problems with my 7100 or 1205AT, I havent needed any help.

I am trying to wrap my head around LFE, and subwoofer levels and how they interact with the 7100. I completely understand what LFE is. However, I am not sure how the 7100 settings for Subwoofer level (in speaker setup menu) and the LFE level interact with the 7100. Subwoofer level generally sets... -
So, I just bought a new house and will have a dedicated audio/HT room for the first time (once I do some work in the basement).
2 channel audio is by far my first priority, but I plan on installing a real HT room for movies.
I like the flexibility of using my own DAC.... -
Just ordered; should be in by Monday. These are just starting to become available in the US. I've been looking for something with above average performance but not over $2K, unlike my last two DACs, which while quite satisfactory from a performance perspective, are rather pricey for most of my friends.... -
This is sweet--the zDAC is finally released. I'm going to pick up a couple of these for sure, and I'm REALLY hopeful about the performance possibilities.

From my point of view my current "preamp" is my av8801. I feed into it by using hdmi from my computer and it delivers the signals by balanced output connectors to the power amp.
When it comes to HDMI vs coax my experience so far is that hdmi is a dream when it comes to handle all kind...
