A preview of my new Halo theater sign

Lookie what I just got from the sign-maker today!!

Please excuse the small, low-res pictures. Signs are un-polished, and still on the floor for pictures. Not mounted yet. Better pictures promised later. Here's all six signs I had made:

Here's the Halo logo sign. Colors are a bit off-kilt under the camera flash.

The THX Ultra 2 logo from the Halo equipment:

I also had custom made a "header" sign for my theater, which for those who don't know, I've named the "Globe Theater" for multiple backstory reasons. Please especially excuse the flash in this pic.

These signs are amazing. Further information and more to come!

    Very nice! :T
What did you use for the DTS and Dolby's sign? Those colored are acrylate?

Yup, the signs are polished acrylic, layered paint for the colors. I've mounted them on the back wall now in my theater. The logos come straight from the original logos for each of the companies or formats.

And one with the camera flash again, to show visibility, but washes out some of the sign colors:

That's very nice! I have to say that I'm personally most impressed by the EXIT sign over the door... That's just super cool! :T

Chris, it seems like you've come a long way since the last pictures I saw. You've repainted the previously white (?) walls in two shades of blue and added very good looking wooden trim pieces. It all looks wonderful! It would be nice to see more recent pics of your fabulous theatre. Please post some more!

BTW, is that some kind of texture on the wall, or is it a trick of the light/camera?

          Peter

Ah, I've got some more pics in these threads here:

What I really need to do is take some time and create professional-grade pictures, and then post a complete write-up.

Thanks, Peter! As for the walls, actually, what the deal is, is that I did the drywall in the room, and then primed and painted it a standard white. Then over the drywall, I put the acoustical finishing of Linacoustic insulation layered on the bottom halves of the walls, and polyester batting on the top half. Both the top and bottom were then covered with Guilford of Maine fabric, which is acoustically transparent. The same fabric is also used around my acoustically perforated screen and wrapped around the columns. All surround speakers are then hidden inside the columns, and my main front and center speakers and two subwoofers are hidden behind the front screen wall.

Yes, but is your crown moulding acoustically transparent. :B :

Alas, no, no it is not. A .1% flaw in the system! Whatever shall I do?

Maybe I should work on making myself acoustically transparent. Hmmm... or perhaps if I gain a bunch of weight, I'll be a more effective "bass trap". I could install blue LED's in my eyelids for a Parasound-like Halo effect!

Chris, great theater!!!! I want something just like that! My one question is: what type of surround speakers do you have and how do they sound from the corner chairs compared to the inner chairs? How large is the sweet spot? Matt.

Thanks, Matt! I use an all-Klipsch setup currently. All 4 surround speakers are Klipsch KSP-S6. They're hidden in the surround columns. The sweet spot is set up to be the first row, two rightmost seats, which straddle the middle of the room's width, at the 3/5 placement in the room.

The next two best seats are the two directly behind those, the rightmost two seats in the back row. From there, the side surrounds still sound good and are diffused in sound, not highly localized. But being closer to the back wall, (although not right up against it) the two rear surround channels are easier to pick out. Thankfully, as you know, these are very minor channels, even when using DPLIIx.

The next best seat is the front row, far left seat, and the "worst" is the left rear. I personally don't like sitting in these seats, especially the left rear, as I definitely notice the difference in sound. However, I'm picky, and of course sensitive to all aspects of my theater's performance. Being close to the wall, the bass is louder and a bit "boomy" in those seats. That's why I tell people that my theater dimensions work pretty well at 12 x 22 x 8, but if I could expand one dimension, it would be the width to allow more room and a wider soundfield.
