    dvd launch

Hi guys just posting to say yesterday I dropped Parasound an e-mail asking about Halo DVD player development and release here in the U.K.
Anyway I got a reply this morning from Martin Harding saying he is here to launch two dvd players at the Bristol hifi show,The show starts today!
He suggested I contact CSE (U.K. distributors) next week for more details . . . so needless to say I have JUST phoned them . . and . . one Classic and one Halo player are being launched prices most likely £1300 and £2250.

It was already announced at Cedia in September last year. See this thread.

    Pictures can be found here.

The question at this point is when consumers will actually be able to buy one... (It was supposed to be available in February).

You getting one Peter? Or are you still thinking of defecting over to the Meridian camp? I think you might have to just have 2 systems as it would be a shame to break up the one you have now;>) I am going to look into it to see what I can get one for. I have the Toshiba SD-9200 that I use right now for CD's and DVD Audio but I want a Universal player so I can start buying SACD's. The Denon 3910 has been tempting me as well. I'm going to wait till the HD players get on the market to see if these older players drop in price. Even with HD players being the "Latest and Greatest", I still see a need for universal players for those of us that are into Hi-Res Audio formats. I will be curious to see if they stop making the universals and just stick to the HD type players, or start making HD universals players. I hope they do, I would hate to see these formats go away. If they brought it to a bigger market they might just take off.

Hiya, Marcus, and welcome to the Guide and Club Parasound! If you're going to the AV show, you may get to see the actual DVD players before the rest of us.

Yes, they're supposed to be released this month. Can't wait to see & get more info.

I too have the Denon 3910. It will be VERY interesting to see how the new D3 compares to the 3910.

Ditto... we'll have to see final price, specs, and any initial reviews that may come out as well. (and also WHEN it finally gets released)

I love Parasound but I don't know why they are bothering with DVD players at this point. J.H.

Probably because Parasound sees it has some degree of brand loyalty built up... If the units are being made, I'm sure they ran the numbers.

J.H. - you know, for a while, I've been thinking that as time goes by, it's looking less and less useful for Parasound to release a DVD player, with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD on the horizon. HOWEVER... actual events are seeming to prove otherwise. Both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray keep announcing delays with their formats and releases keep getting pushed back. The Playstation 3 (Blu-Ray based) now won't be seen until December at the earliest. Denon and other companies have announced that due to format problems, they're skipping entirely the first generation of HD players and will start producting something for 2nd gen. HDMI 1.3 STILL has not been finalized, which is a big part of both HD formats.

As an industry participant and observer, I'm seeing some very high instability with the new stuff that's coming out, which makes me more nervous than ever thinking about buying into it early. However, if Parasound and other companies can put out real high-end players now based on cutting edge CURRENT technology, it's looking more and more like it will last for quite some time.

Who knows. I'm still waiting with baited breath for Parasound players any day now. I'm surprised we haven't heard anything more.

I have a 3910 now and was awaiting the D3. I'm now considering moving on to the 5910. I've seen some great prices on these recently.

Yeah but it doesn't matter. These things are REALLY expensive. Its just way too late in the game for such an expensive high end regular DVD player. As I said I love Parasound and have for a while now but this just doesn't make sense. J.H.

I somewhat agree with you, however NAD released the master series universal within the past couple weeks, and I would take the Parasound over the NAD's buggy units any day of the week.

NAD is known for being very slow with new technology so it doesn't surprise me but Parasound I just don't this. They are smarter than this. J.H.

They need to be concerned about their processors. There are some incredible pieces out there right now including Arcam and Anthem. I agree that it is safer to take the cautious route, but to keep everyone in the dark about upgrades, or lack there of, is not the right way to keep interest in the product line. Especially the fact thats its been so long and no showing at CES it really makes me nervous.

Yeah I hope the are working with Vinci Labs now for a next gen Processors that decodes DD+,DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD. Its going to hit soon and a new processor would be perfect. I mean Monster already anounced a processor that will decode thos sound formats. Parasounds processors are some of the best on the market but technology moves quick these days. In the end Parasound will create something incredible I am positive about that. Its a very good company. J.H.
