    Crazy Thought..........

I wonder what it would sound like if I took my rear speakers from my HT, set them up next to my Right and Left Front speakers ( all speakers firing from the front, including my center channel) and played some 5.1 SACD/DVD-Audio disc's surround tracks?

Would it sound like a huge jumbled up, convoluted mess? Or would it sound very full and coherent? Has anyone ever tried such a thing?

      :B Absolutely.

I was wondering if anyone had tried it before or maybe had a convincing technical reason for not trying it.

I'll give it a try over the next few weeks.

I don't get it why? You'll have sound meant for the back of the room in the front and it will sound like one big mess. I don't see the advantage. J.H.

Better yet, just play the Hi-Res 2 channel mix out of your mains. There is no reason to try what you mentioned. If you want surround, go with the 5.1 mix. If you want it all up front, go with the stereo mix. Either way you will get the full audio mix where it was intended.

i have a friend that didn't want to run speaker wires to the rear of the room so did just what your asking, sounded good and there seemed to be better "stereo" seperation, and in this case there was no "phantom center" because there was a actual center.

didn't get any surround effect except for the slight reflection off the walls.
