FWIW, the 2205a is a legacy model. The contemporary model is New Classic Model 5250.

Well its only going to opinion but I would say like most here that the Parasound is much better. I was told a while back when looking a Parasound processor and adcom processor that Adcom used to be very good byt have slipped in recent years. Thats just what i was told. I have a Parasound processor and amp I don't think they can be beat in the same price range. Then agaij this is "club Parasound" so we are mostly biased. J.H.

Build quality of the Adcoms just don't do it for me. One of my distributors sells it and is always pushing it on me to start selling. I just have not been too hip on the looks and quailty of them. That does not mean they are not as good, but I like to look at a product and see the quality of it. Look at the Halo components. What do you think when you look at one? For me, I think it must be really good and expensive. That's what I like to see, own, or sell. JMO

That 5250 looks sweet. I had the same choice to make not that long ago... Adcom (7ch) or Halo (Ax1's). While I have a 2ch Adcom here now, I was never terribly in love with it. Sure, it had good sound, has run like a champ (must be 10 years old by now -- bought used), and is built well. But Adcom has always had the distinction of being the 'budget' line of quality amplification, and that makes me wonder what corners are being cut. Granted, you could say the same about Halo (and chinese/taiwanese manufacture). The rear of the Parasound NC model looks just like the Adcom in terms of components used (plastic binding posts) and color.

At the end of the day, either one would have worked. Since I had the $$$ to spring for the Halos, I decided to do that, just so I would never have to say "what if".

The funny thing is that I noticed last month that the Adcom 2ch amp is almost as big as the whole Panny 1014 (with 7ch amplification built-in) I have it hooked up to.

i have had the parasound 885a and i moved upto the adcom 7705 but i cant really tell the difference. the 7705 is in the same power region as 2205a but the 7705 is this years model and 2205a was made in 1998. does age play a factor?? all i need is reassurance that i made the right purchase. adcom is not existent in the uk which could mean that it must a poor following in the US.
people have i made the right purchase!!

The 2205a was made for many years. Are you buying a unit that was manufactured in 1998 or manufactured in 2003? That may make a difference, since electronics age.

Both amps are analog. This technology has not evolved significantly the past years, so I would say no worry about technology issues.

I find it strange that you don't talk about COST at all. Are you getting a good deal on either or both of these units? The 2205 originally had an MSRP of $2,500. Before discontinuing the model, Parasound lowered the MSRP to $1,999. Today it is possible to get hold of brand new 2205a's for less than $1,500. Used ones in pristine condition ususally go for ~$1,000. My gut react is that the 2205 can be had for a lot less than the 7707...

7705 retails in US for about $2199. I am in the UK by the way!! cant get adcom here. the 2205a costs about £1000 here.
