Connection problem with PC to C2

Im having problems connecting to my C2 to a PC.

    Pc1, win XP Pro SP2.
3 different direct 9 pin cables. Not USB convertors. Just get the message "unable to establish serial connection"

Messed arround with all settings, com1, bios etc and no joy with any of the three cables.

So tried a laptop with win ME and same 3 cables. Same message.

Im not convinced the cables are the problem. But of course it could be possible.

Could my C2 serial port be faulty?

What kind of serial cables are you using? A straight through cable is needed, not a Null cable. Actually only 3 pins are needed, Gnd (5), Xmit (2), Rec (3). Check to see that these pins are at each end and not crossed (Null).

It's possible, MIB. Let's troubleshoot--what port is your computer using for the serial? Right click on My Computer, Properties, Hardware Tab, Device Manager, then expand the Ports header. Whichever one it is, the Halo Control needs to match the same port. Note that Halo Control only allows you to choose a certain number of ports--I think it's 1-4. Sometimes after changine the Halo Control port selection, I have to restart the program to activate it.

its using com 1, on both Pcs.
Im off to get a M-F 9 pin extension cable. That way there should be no pin switching.
If that dont work, then Ill call Parasound.

However. When browsing the C2 menu using OSD. after 2 mins a 'hiss' sound comes from all speakers.

Ive not seen (heard!) that before the update.

The Hiss goes away when an input is selected?

Uhhhhh... never heard this one before.

An input is always selected, when you turn on the C2 it goes to the last input you had selected. Do you mean it goes away if you change inputs?

if I select a TV input or CD, sound is then expected to be output from the C2.

When in C2 menu mode, I can have it so there is no associated live input while viewing the display. When this happens after 2 mins the speakers start to 'hiss', not straight away, but after 2 minutes.

when I select an audio input, TV, DVD etc I then here the sound for that source and the hiss stops.

The hissing appears from silence while browsing C2 setup menu.

For those of you interested in remote serial 2-way control of the Halo C1/C2 there is some good news, Cinemar is working on a plugin for their Main Lobby control program that will allow RS-232 (serial) 2-way control of all major functions. Has anybody tried connecting to their C2/C1 using the serial port at the back. I tried connecting my laptop using a Db9 male/female serial cable but was unable to get a serial connection - tried com 1 through 4 (use com 1 for my remote control). Am I missing something?

I talked with Paul at Parasound today, and got some good info on the update issue. Apparently yes, the current version available is 6.42. Version 6.49 was developed, but bugs were found, and it is not currently available to the public. If anyone inadvertently has version 6.49, they should contact Parasound...
