New MX Editor Software for Parasound Version 2 posted on Parasound Website

    Guys-

I just noticed that a new file has been posted for download on the Parasound website. This is the MX Editor for Parasound software for use with the Halo C1 and C2 to configure the included MX-700 and Sidekick remotes. I've found this software to be invaluable in setting up the MX-700 remote to control all my equipment and customize the Halo and Remote to exactly the way I like them to operate.

I haven't seen what the difference is, yet, between this new version 2 and the original version. I'll post if I find out.

Cool, thanks Chris. Well at least they've put out SOMETHING new for download. Shows that at least something is going on in that office of theirs. =)

I'm just hating, you know I love Parasound.

Maybe it's just my computer, but I can't fully install the program. It told me I had to uninstall version 1 of the MXEditor, so I did. Then I ran the installation program again, which appeared to run completely and without errors. But no program is showing up for me to run when the installation is complete. I've rebooted and tried again, no run program. When I re-run the installation program, it now tells me I can repair or re-install, leading me to believe that it's actually installed, but there's nothing for me to run.

I got no Norton Anti-Virus messages during installation, so I don't think that's it.

Dunno... I'll troubleshoot when I have time.

Hmmm, all I did was open my MX Editor program, then run Liveupdate. That might be the safer route.

The downloads currently on the Parasound site are not new.

          The install file in HaloControlv2.zip is HaloSetup_v11.exe and is dated 04/29/2003 -- which is not v2 - but it's named v2 ?

          The install file in MXeditorv2.zip is dated 10/17/2003 - which is not v2 - but it's named v2 ?

Per http://universalremote.com/htm/updatehistory/ the latest version is not v2 -- the latest version is: Feb 8, 2005 Ver 1.12.228 -- which you can get by clicking on MX Editor Help menu, then clicking on Live Update.

Actually at some point they are adding independent zone control for zone 2 with discrete commands on a new page for the MX-700 remote. This will require a file download from Parasound. This will work with the new firmware coming out for the C1/C2...Hopefully an announcement at EH Expo this week!

...but don't hold your breath.

Perhaps, if we keep saying "it'll be here soon" and it eventually shows up, we'll get proven right one of these times.

To clarify what I know of the file versions for download from the Parasound website--

Halo Control Software ***IS*** version 2. I know, because I downloaded and installed the original software when it was very first posted on the Parasound website a couple years ago. The version on the site now is version 2.

MX Editor software has a new file name, indicating that it is now version 2. A week or so ago, it didn't have the version 2 label, indicating that the file on the website now is new. However, I downloaded and installed the new "v2", and it doesn't appear to be different from the original in any way, including the file date as John indicated above.

Live Update doesn't indicate that it changed the actual software program version, but updates the functionality and code database. Who knows... if a whole new MX Editor software program is released, though, Live Update may or may not update the entire program.

Yes, with new Halo firmware being released, we may need to see new MXEditor functions. There's a few things that I'd personally like.

(as for me installing the new software... it was my bad. Just didn't notice where the program was actually listed in the new start program listing)

Here's a strange question, but maybe somebody knows: When I connect to the internet with dial-up internet access, MXEditor runs with no problems. However, when I use high-speed internet access of any kind, DSL, cable, or whatever, whether it's at home, in a hotel, etc, the Live Update says "Cannot connect to server". Nothing's different about my computer--I have Norton Internet Security running in either case, with the same parameters.

I e-mailed Universal Remote for help, but they just said to "turn off my firewall". If I disable Norton Internet Security, it makes no difference.

Thoughts? It's SOOOOO much easier to download a massive update file with high-speed, so I'd prefer to fix the problem.

I got the official word from Parasound tech support on the "new" MX Editor software. It is a new version that is required for the discrete zone controls, as Brent mentioned. I don't see a difference in the rest of the MX Editor program, so I don't think people will see any difference if they aren't upgrading to discrete zone controls.

Back to my other issue-- ever since going to the new MX Editor program, I haven't been able to use Live Update. It's still stuck on version 1.11.184 from last August or something. I had problems with Live Update not working in the past with various high speed internet connections, and I'm still getting "cannot connect to server" there. But now it won't work via dial-up either--it downloads the very big file, taking a long time, but then says the download is complete and stops. It no longer tells me that it's installing the download, then the typical message "MX Editor will be updated the next time you open the program".

Anybody been able to make Live Update work since the DPLIIx update?
