    RS 232 and USB

Does anybody knows how to connect a laptop with no serial ports (just an USB, I have an IBM Thinkpad T42) with the RS-232 port in the C1?.
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

You should be able to find an innexpensive USB to Serial adapter.

Here's one for $22: http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/usb_serial.htm. Best Buy also allegedly carries one in the $20's...

This is exactly what I use, although I can't remember the brand. Works just fine, except I did have to take off the screw receiver heads from the sides of the RS232 port on the back of the C1 so it would mate. No big deal. They screw right off.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

Using a USB to Serial adapter for FW update w/ Vista
              by TommyV
OK I would like to hear from people who have successfully used a USB to serial adapter/converter cable to update the firmware on their 10 or 15 series processor or AVR. I want to be able to use my laptop to do this update which is Vista 64bit. I am trying to update my RSP-1069

              USB to Serial Adapter
              by Andrew Pratt
Has anyone ever tried to connect to the Rotels to update the firmware using a USB to serial adapter? I'm looking to buy a laptop and not all of them come with a serial port anymore which might not be a problem if the converters work properly.

For those of you interested in remote serial 2-way control of the Halo C1/C2 there is some good news, Cinemar is working on a plugin for their Main Lobby control program that will allow RS-232 (serial) 2-way control of all major functions. I originally bought this program to control the Sony CX777ES...

              Rotel Firmware update -- info
              by chamath
I would like to share my 2nd upgrade experience with you so hopefully you would not run into the same issues I had. I have a Rotel RSX-1057; however, the issue described below would apply to any upgrade as it was not a Rotel problem.

              Firmware: (1057)
              my system = 2.1.2
