A51 VS Gemstone

    A51 VS Gemstone

    Has anyone heard both of these amps and could you give me your impressions on them?

    What I have gathered so far is that they are both excellent amps with a slightly forward leaning neutral sound. The main difference it that the A51 is 5x250 and the Gemstone is 7X200. I am leaning towards the Gemstone purely because of the 7 channels which eliminates the need for a second amp in a 7.1 HT set up.

    I am trying to match the amp with a set of Wharfedale Opus 3s

    Also how hot (temperature not sound) does the A51 run, does it need a lot of breathing room?

      6" on the top, 3" on the sides and on the back.

      If your rack is of the type that has all sides completely open, 3" top clearance will be fine.

          From my experience, Gemstone is most commonly referred to in the same sentence as Bryston. Lots of supporters on either side. I don't know how the Gemstone's sound, but if they are anything like Bryston, they would be excellent. That is, only until you try a Halo. Then your mind will be made.

              I'm trying to troubleshoot a *hiiisss* emanating from the speakers when the C1 and A51 are connected and powered up. At a steady state (no inputs playing), the hiss is actually quite loud ... one can hear it from all 5x speakers quite clearly, even from a distance of 10'!
